Engineering Documentation Specialist

Job Summary

We are seeking an Engineering Documentation Specialist for a direct-hire opportunity in Charlotte, NC. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented technical documentation professional with experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, machine tools, turnkey automation systems, or related technical environments.

The Engineering Documentation Specialist will create, maintain, and organize technical manuals, CAD-related documentation, SOPs, work instructions, drawing updates, bills of materials, and quality documentation. This position works closely with mechanical, electrical, controls, software, quality, service, and operations teams to ensure documentation is accurate, usable, and aligned with customer and internal requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Create and maintain technical manuals, operating instructions, preventive maintenance guides, troubleshooting documents, spare parts information, layouts, and related technical materials.
- Partner with engineering teams to develop accurate user guides, maintenance documentation, customer documentation packages, and internal technical resources.
- Assist with part and assembly drawings using SolidWorks or a comparable CAD platform.
- Update CAD models, drawings, bills of materials, engineering documentation, and revision records to support design changes and engineering-change requests.
- Develop, update, and standardize SOPs, work instructions, templates, controlled documents, and departmental documentation processes.
- Support quality-management and document-control activities, including audit preparation, revision tracking, archives, distribution records, and process documentation.

Required Qualifications and Skills

- Create and maintain engineering documentation for machine tools, turnkey automation systems, and related technical processes.
- Support CAD documentation, drawing updates, bills of materials, and engineering-change documentation.
- Develop standardized SOPs, work instructions, templates, and controlled-documentation processes.
- Assemble documentation packages for customers, service teams, partners, and internal stakeholders.

- 1 to 3 years of relevant experience in engineering documentation, technical writing, manufacturing documentation, document control, or a related technical environment.
- Associate degree or higher in Engineering, Technical Communication, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks or a comparable CAD program is required.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly drawings, and bills of materials.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Highly organized and able to manage competing priorities, deadlines, document revisions, and controlled-documentation requirements.
- Ability to use computers and office equipment for extended periods and occasionally lift or move items up to 25 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with ERP systems and technical-documentation platforms.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, machining, fabrication, assembly, or equipment-support documentation.
- Experience supporting quality-management systems, audits, document control, and revision tracking.
- Basic XML knowledge.
- German speaking and writing ability.
- Experience working with cross-functional engineering teams, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and software engineering.
