Payroll Specialist- Prevailing Wage

Job Title Payroll Specialist Reports To Payroll Manager Job Summary The Payroll Specialist is responsible for processing payroll and related data, verifying and correcting payroll reports and documents, reconciling and transmitting payroll payments, and providing support to the payroll staff. This person must have prevailing wage experience. Job Duties and Responsibilities Process data entry for multi‑state payroll for more than 2,500 employees under strict deadlines while ensuring all entries and system outputs follow local, state and federal laws. Handle employee and business partner queries (HR, Finance, Tax). Analyze and process off‑cycle pay, special payments, adjustments, and reversals. Perform manual garnishment calculations and maintenance. Compile and distribute certified payroll reporting. Assist with monthly journal entries for payroll expense and accruals and assist with month‑end analysis and adjusting journal entries. Other responsibilities as assigned. Physical and Mental Requirements Regular attendance is mandatory. Must be self‑motivated, positive in approach, and convey an appropriate professional image. Must promote the company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients and business partners. Must possess proven problem‑solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read, write and give oral presentations. Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and general accounting software and have strong typing/data entry skills. Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Career Path Payroll Manager Salary Min: USD $55,000.00/year – Max: USD $60,000.00/year Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, preferred. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, with at least 1 year in a senior or supervisory role, preferably within a large organization. Skills: Proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paycom, or similar systems). Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements. Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. Strong organizational and time management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
