Computational Pathology Scientist
Advanced Clinical
Overview We are currently seeking a highly skilled Computational Pathology Scientist to join a well‑known client’s team in South San Francisco, CA. This role focuses on advancing preclinical pathology assessments through innovative digital pathology and computational image analysis. The Computational Pathology Scientist will play a key role in transforming traditional histopathology workflows by developing and applying cutting‑edge image analysis pipelines, machine learning, and deep learning techniques. This position offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with pathologists, computational scientists, and cross‑functional teams to drive innovation in digital pathology and support data‑driven biological insights. Responsibilities Develop and implement image analysis pipelines for digital histopathology using both classical and advanced (ML/DL) techniques. Perform quantitative analysis of whole‑slide images (WSI) and digital pathology datasets. Apply computer vision, machine learning, and deep learning methods for tasks such as segmentation, classification, and feature extraction. Collaborate closely with pathologists and biologists to design and execute image analysis workflows aligned to scientific questions. Contribute to the development and deployment of AI‑driven image analysis algorithms. Utilize commercial platforms such as HALO, Visiopharm, or QuPath when appropriate. Perform statistical analysis and data visualization to support the interpretation of results. Maintain well‑documented, reproducible workflows and adhere to best practices (e.g., version control, pipeline documentation). Participate in cross‑functional collaborations and knowledge sharing across teams. Experience 5+ years of relevant experience in computational biology, data science, bioinformatics, or related field. Demonstrated expertise in Python programming and scientific computing libraries (NumPy, Pandas, Scikit‑learn, OpenCV). Strong experience in computer vision and image analysis, including both classical and machine learning approaches. Hands‑on experience with whole‑slide image (WSI) processing using tools such as OpenSlide or similar. Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development environments. Preferred: Expertise in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras; Detectron2 a plus). Experience in digital pathology platforms (HALO, Visiopharm, QuPath). Experience with high‑performance computing (HPC) environments and job schedulers (e.g., SLURM). Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster). Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS). Experience building lightweight GUI tools for research workflows. Background in tumor pathology, histopathology, or immunology. Education Master’s or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline required. To Be a Best Fit, Your Strengths Must Include Strong programming expertise with a focus on Python‑based scientific computing. Deep understanding of image analysis and computational pathology workflows. Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to translate biological questions into computational solutions. Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Attention to detail with a strong focus on reproducibility and data integrity. Proactive, innovative approach with a passion for advancing digital pathology and AI applications. Full‑time employees are also eligible for benefits options such as health coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, and 401k benefits.
