Assistant Director of Nursing - Subacute Job Category : Registered Nurse Requisition Number : ASSIS003742 Posted : September 4, 2026 Full-Time On-site Salary Range : $131,539.20 USD to $193,398.40 USD Locations Showing 1 location Memorial Hospital of Gardena Gardena, CA 90247, USA Description Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Nursing - Sub-Acute – RN, supports the Director of Nursing in managing daily clinical operations, ensuring regulatory compliance (CDPH/CMS), and supervising nursing staff. Key duties include monitoring patient care quality, managing staff schedules, facilitating care plans, and acting as the DON in their absence. Interacts appropriately with staff, physicians, and other departments in collaborative relationships to meet the needs of patient/families. Supervises and delegates appropriately to other licensed and non-licensed staff members in providing care to patients/families. Assists the Nursing Director in the overall management of nursing personnel, patient care unit, and the educational environment of the patient care unit. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication. Essential Functions: Respond to and participate in Rapid Response Team (RRT) calls and lead Code Blue events. Perform emergency medical procedures, such as basic life support (BLS). Use critical thinking skills to diagnose clinical problems and define appropriate interventions. Supervise, train, and mentor nursing staff to maintain high standards of patient care. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and assist with survey readiness. Conduct daily rounds, review patient documentation, and manage the admission and transfer process. Participate in infection control programs, risk management, and patient care improvement initiatives. Demonstrate willingness and capability to perform Registered Nurse duties daily, as needed. Demonstrate strong leadership skills, including a willingness to pursue roles with increasing levels of accountability, coaching, teaching, inspiring, building alliances, and collaborating to resolve issues. Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in stressful situations. Execute assigned process improvement projects. Supervise the unit, including adjusting staffing on a shift-to-shift basis; counseling and coaching employees; taking appropriate disciplinary action for policy infractions; providing staff education; and promoting unit cohesion. Complete the monthly schedule and assist staff with scheduling needs. Assist with reviewing and maintaining adequate supply inventory. Collaborate with the department Medical Director to enhance departmental throughput processes and timelines. Conduct performance reviews for all new hires and current staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. Provide ongoing staff education, including huddle notes, discussions, and visual boards. Conduct monthly staff meetings, including maintaining minutes and sign-in sheets. Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external. Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication. Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs. Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations. Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services. Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary. Acts quickly, appropriately and with a sense of urgency and prioritization in delivery of patient care. Stabilizes patients by coordination with medical staff providers, EMS (Emergency Medical Services), coworkers, patients, and family members in a professional, calm manner. Attends and/or completes monthly, annual, and assigned training. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications/Experience: Three (3) years management experience in a skilled nursing facility or acute care setting.
