Assistant Professor & Assistant Director, Pre=Licensure Program

Drew University is located in the Watts‑Willowbrook area of south Los Angeles and was founded in 1966 in the wake of the Watts uprising. The university was established to address inadequate medical care in the region and to provide equitable medical education opportunities for under‑represented students. CDU offers the only historically black Doctor of Medicine program west of the Mississippi and is strongly invested in the local and regional community. The university leads multiple partnerships and programs to provide equitable healthcare resources in a variety of south Los Angeles neighborhoods. Reporting to the Pre‑Licensure Program Director, the Assistant Program Director, Pre‑Licensure provides leadership in the daily operations of the College and supports implementation and maintenance of the nursing program through strategic planning, curriculum development, faculty mentoring, and teaching. In the Director’s absence, the Assistant Program Director assumes responsibility for academic and curricular issues and supervises assigned faculty and staff within the College of Nursing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Leadership & Program Administration Provide operational and academic leadership in conjunction with the Pre‑Licensure Program Director. Assume the duties of the Pre‑Licensure Program Director in his/her absence. Maintain confidential student files and records in compliance with FERPA regulations. Respond to student concerns and refer students to appropriate resources, including counseling. Ensure processes are in place to track, monitor, and record student completion and program progress. Monitor NCLEX progression and develop corrective plans. Provide leadership support to the Office of the Dean. Supervise professional and administrative staff. Promote intra‑ and inter‑department collaboration. Recommend resources needed for the college. Advise on short‑ and long‑range planning for the college. Develop and cultivate community partners to advance program goals. Operational Leadership Support Assist in implementing program policies and procedures. Support daily program operations. Assist in preparing BRN and accreditation documentation. Coordinate clinical placements and site evaluations. Assist in monitoring student progression and program outcomes. Participate in ongoing advisement and monitoring of students, faculty, and program to ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation agencies. Maintain faculty files regarding RN licensure, CPR, malpractice, and health certifications. Academic Support Participate in curriculum development and evaluation. Assist with outcome tracking and corrective action planning. Support faculty orientation and mentoring. Faculty and Staff Support Supervise assigned personnel as delegated. Assist in maintaining faculty compliance documentation. Support recruitment and onboarding efforts. Student Support Assist with student advisement and progression monitoring. Participate in student discipline processes as assigned. Coordinate clinical placement arrangements. Assist with preparation of BRN and CCNE forms for site approval visits. Evaluate clinical placement sites. Fiscal Support Provide recommendations regarding resource needs. Assist the Director with data collection for budget preparation. Do not hold primary responsibility for budget development or fiscal oversight. Faculty Responsibilities Maintain assigned teaching load. Engage in scholarship, research, and professional development. Other Duties and Responsibilities Assist with student, staff, and faculty matters as needed. Serve on University Committees. Promote external relations with professional organizations. Perform other related duties and special projects as requested. Maintain faculty responsibilities and mentor junior‑level faculty. Consult with the curriculum committee on curriculum development. Participate in professional development and organizations to maintain current knowledge of nursing practice and educational innovations. Review and develop action plans based on student and faculty feedback to improve program quality. Qualifications and Requirements Education Master’s degree in nursing required. Active California Registered Nurse license. Doctorate in a related field required, with coursework in nursing, education, or administration (or equitable combination of education and experience). Licensed as a Registered Nurse in California. Experience Two years of teaching experience in pre‑ or post‑licensure nursing programs. One year of direct patient care experience as a registered nurse. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of nursing educational program administration. Knowledge of nursing principles and practices, including board guidelines. Knowledge of curriculum development and implementation. Knowledge of clinical practice and teaching in nursing. Knowledge of current trends and complexities within nursing and healthcare. Knowledge of health‑related education on a global scale. Ability to recruit for and market educational programs. Ability to develop a strategic plan for program growth. Demonstrated commitment to service in underserved communities. Demonstrated leadership in teaching, research, and public engagement. Willingness to perform and commit to extra‑curricular responsibilities for the department, college, and university. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Planning and evaluating staff development. Providing on‑the‑job training. Reviewing work performance and conducting student opinion surveys. Hiring new employees. Determining salary actions. Disciplining or terminating employees. Promoting or demoting employees. Complexity Ability to formulate and implement a clear vision for the Program while providing leadership and direction for faculty, staff, and students.
