Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery

Location: Bronx, NY 10467
Specialty: Labor & Delivery (L&D)

Shift: Nights - 3/12s (7pm-7:30am)

Rate: $70-$75/hr

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to provide high-quality nursing care to mothers and newborns throughout the labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum process.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in maternal and child health nursing, demonstrated proficiency in IV insertion and phlebotomy, and experience with conscious sedation. This position requires excellent clinical judgment, strong patient assessment skills, and the ability to respond effectively to obstetrical emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum recovery.
• Assess and monitor maternal and fetal well-being, including vital signs, fetal heart rate patterns, and uterine contractions.
• Assist physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals during vaginal deliveries and obstetrical procedures.
• Administer medications, intravenous fluids, and prescribed treatments in accordance with established protocols.
• Perform IV insertions, venipuncture, and phlebotomy procedures.
• Assist with procedures requiring conscious (moderate) sedation, including patient preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure recovery.
• Recognize and respond promptly to obstetrical emergencies, including fetal distress, postpartum hemorrhage, and other maternal complications.
• Provide immediate newborn care and assist with neonatal resuscitation when necessary.
• Support patients and families by providing education, emotional support, and guidance throughout the childbirth experience.
• Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Maintain accurate documentation of patient assessments, nursing interventions, medications, and clinical outcomes.
• Adhere to hospital policies, infection prevention protocols, patient safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN/ADN) from an accredited nursing program.

Experience

• Minimum of two (2) years of Maternal and Child Health nursing experience, preferably in Labor & Delivery.
• Minimum of two (2) years of IV insertion and phlebotomy experience.
• Minimum of two (2) years of conscious sedation experience.

Licenses & Certifications

• Current New York State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Primary source verification of RN license and registration through the New York State Education Department (NYSED).
• American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

Required Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of Labor & Delivery nursing practices and maternal-fetal monitoring.
• Proficiency in IV insertion, phlebotomy, and medication administration.
• Experience with conscious sedation and procedural patient monitoring.
• Ability to recognize and respond to maternal and neonatal emergencies.
• Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
• Strong communication, teamwork, and patient education abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity Labor & Delivery environment.
• Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care and clinical excellence.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse with at least two years of maternal and child health experience, strong IV insertion and phlebotomy skills, and documented experience with conscious sedation. Candidates must hold an active New York State RN license and current BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications.
