College Advisor

The College Advisor provides individualized and schoolwide college-planning support that helps students and families understand, access, and successfully navigate the college admissions, financial aid, scholarship, and enrollment processes. The advisor partners with administrators, school counselors, teachers, families, colleges, and community organizations to expand postsecondary opportunities and support students from exploration through transition and enrollment.

Major responsibilities include:

1. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
2. Build trusting, culturally responsive relationships with students and families and provide timely, individualized college advising. Guide students through college exploration, selection, applications, admissions requirements, enrollment decisions, and transition planning.
3. Keep students and families informed of deadlines, eligibility requirements, and available resources through individual conferences, communications, workshops, and family events.
4. Provide accurate guidance regarding financial aid and scholarships, including completion of the FAFSA and understanding Georgia HOPE programs and other state, federal, institutional, and private aid opportunities.
5. Assist students with registration, preparation, and planning for college entrance examinations and other admissions-related assessments, when applicable.
6. Monitor student progress toward graduation and postsecondary eligibility, and collaborate with school counselors and administrators to address barriers promptly.
7. Track, analyze, and report key indicators, including credits, graduation progress, applications, acceptances, financial-aid completion, scholarships, and enrollment outcomes.
8. Coordinate college fairs, admissions visits, information sessions, campus visits, guest speakers, and other college-access activities.
9. Develop and maintain productive relationships with colleges, universities, scholarship providers, community partners, and college-access organizations.
10. Support dual-enrollment and other postsecondary-credit opportunities in collaboration with students, families, school staff, and partner institutions.
11. Research and connect students with summer programs, internships, enrichment experiences, and other college-readiness opportunities.
12. Maintain accurate, confidential student records and use district-approved systems and tools in accordance with applicable policies and legal requirements.
13. Participate in professional learning and remain current on college-admissions practices, financial-aid requirements, and college-access research.
14. Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Non-program duties and responsibilities include:

1. Promotes the mission of preparing students for college and beyond.
2. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Physical demands include:

• Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
• Dexterity to write on a board, operate a computer, and use other classroom technology.
• Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
• Clear speech and hearing abilities for effective communication.
• Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials.
