Position Description Woodland High School seeks an excellent classroom teacher to teach English Language Arts courses and who is able to provide excellent instruction in Health as a secondary course assignment. Job Summary To teach and educate students according to their educational needs and abilities. Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons. Assess, record, and report on the development, progress, and behavior of students. Communicate, consult, and cooperate with other members of the school staff. Work assists the superintendent toward the mission of preparing students for career, life, and college. Qualifications Hold a valid Washington State teaching certificate with proper endorsements for assignment. Well‑developed management skills, people skills, and effective communication skills. Experience in data analysis and instructional design, responsive to data. Growth mindset and belief that all children can learn at high levels. Team player willing to roll up sleeves to get the job done. Experience working with diverse students and families, and commitment to advocating for all children. Additional endorsements in other subject areas are preferred, but not required. Ability to use a variety of teaching strategies addressing differing student learning styles. Technology skills, people skills, and effective communication skills. Regular and punctual attendance to carry out duties and achieve program requirements. Preference given to bilingual candidates. Skills Speak clearly to students, other teachers, parents, and administration officials. Explain new ideas and unfamiliar concepts with authority and clarity so students can understand and stay engaged. Deal with students from different backgrounds and abilities. Differentiation of curriculum to meet student needs. Engage parents and build healthy relationships with students and faculty. Multitask in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Work independently and as a team member. Excellent organizational, planning, and implementation skills. Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills. Strong technology skills – proficiency with online office and collaboration tools, e.g., Google Apps and Classroom. Apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs. Build relationships and communicate with adults and students alike. Plan units with clear outcomes that students understand. Use UBD (Understanding by Design) principles. Develop high‑interest, multimedia, fast‑paced lessons. Daily formative assessment to guide instruction. Diagnose misconceptions and correct them quickly. Collaborate with Colleagues Provide and implement high‑quality feedback. Collaborate with grade‑level and subject colleagues on all common courses. Model a growth mindset and foster continuous learning. Open classroom doors to colleagues, families, and community members. Observe peers teaching and give feedback for improvement. Create and support common school‑wide systems. Assist in special projects and other duties as assigned. Other Duties and Responsibilities Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement. Demonstrate effective teaching practices. Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies. Provide focused subject content and curriculum. Foster a safe, positive learning environment. Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction. Communicate with parents and the school community. Collaborate with colleagues to improve instruction and learning. Teach the district‑approved curriculum. Plan a program that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials; provide individualized and small‑group instruction. Encourage students to set and maintain behavior standards. Communicate regularly with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences. Diagnose learning disabilities of students. Maintain behavior standards for an effective learning atmosphere. Manage conditions that lead to student control problems. Establish clear parameters for in‑class conduct. Evaluate academic and social growth, keep records, and prepare reports. Create a climate of mutual respect. Develop substitute plans in detail. Participate in extracurricular activities. Attend department and school meetings, parent meetings.
