Tutor Module 1: Accounting (Westshore)

Reports To: Campus Director, Learning Commons Recruitment Type: External/Internal Requisition ID: req7185 Employment Type: Part‑Time Support Staff Union Position: Non‑Union Work Schedule: Flexible schedule (days, evenings, weekends). Schedule varies based on the needs of the department. Supervisor will work with selected candidate to set a schedule designed to support the demands of the department.

SUMMARY

The Accounting Tutor works directly with students, either one‑on‑one or in small group sessions, aiming to foster independent learning and help students achieve their academic goals. Tutors should have knowledge from courses such as: Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, CPA Review. Other Tutoring Topics covered include ledgers, preparing income taxes, preparing financial statements, and cost analysis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Support the department’s goal of providing students with supplemental academic support by: Providing one‑on‑one and small group tutoring support. Providing subject‑specific content strategies, attuned to different learning styles and preferences, to help students understand key concepts learned in class. Providing direct assistance in the use of equipment and learning materials needed for student’s success. Conducting “class visits” and assisting with publicizing the College’s tutoring services. Assisting with the maintenance of accurate records in accordance with stated deadlines. Completing all necessary paperwork accurately and according to stated deadlines. Assisting with the development and maintenance of departmental instructional materials. Performing other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience/Training Education consistent with department needs & minimum of associate’s degree in related field of study. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the subject matter. Ability to explain concepts to others effectively. Ability to multitask with varying levels of students and subject material. Ability to communicate with faculty regarding expectations of students, assignments, attendance at tutoring sessions and work completed. Ability to effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success. Ability to work comfortably with people from diverse backgrounds. Possess patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment. Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere through professional decorum and appearance, ethical conduct, courtesy and tact. Possess strong organizational and time‑management skills. Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to foster a team environment and work collaboratively. Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail. Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships. Possess working knowledge of administrative and scheduling concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply to varied situations. Demonstrate basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity. Possess sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in a normal, professional office environment. Work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Typically, employee may sit comfortably to perform duties of the job and may perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. There may also be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc. Work may require walking, standing and traveling to meetings and conferences away from the worksite. Special Note: Set‑Rate Non‑Bargaining Part‑Time Position . This is a Part‑Time Non‑Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $18.21 per hour. If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1‑40‑01.1 Recruitment and Selection Procedure.
