ER Unit Position

Unit: ER

They prefer candidates who have level III trauma experience or above. The unit has 15 beds, with a 6 bed fast track that is open from 9am-10pm. Certifications required include ACLS, BLS, PALS. Ratios are typically 1 to 4, depending on patient acuity. The EMR system used is Cerner (First Net). There is a charge nurse who will take a small patient load if needed. Nurse aides, a unit secretary on 24/7, and a tech on for 20 hours during the day are available. The weekend requirement is every other weekend, and holidays are worked into the permanent staff rotation. Scrub color is navy. Phillips central monitor tech in the ICU monitors ER patients. Ventilators are available. There is a hospitalist or intensivist on-site with one physician available at all times, and midlevels are available from 9am-2am. An IV team is not available, but respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7. Shifts are 12 hours long, and schedules are made out 30-45 days in advance. Floating is not required. Floor-specific orientation is 2-3 days on the unit. Common diagnoses include stroke, abdominal pain, orthopedic injuries, and a variety of other conditions, including many psychiatric patients. Candidates must have 3-5 years of experience in the specialty. The unit sees about 100 patient visits per day and about 500-600 pediatric patients per month.
