Description

The Manual Machinist Level 2 position is for a qualified manual machinist capable of performing routine machining operations with limited supervision. This position is responsible for setting up and operating manual machines to repair, modify, and re-machine industrial valve components while maintaining critical dimensions and quality requirements.

The Level 2 machinist should be able to work from drawings, sketches, samples, and verbal instructions. This position requires a working knowledge of manual lathes, knee mills, horizontal boring mills, and/or vertical turret lathes.

Education & Experience

Minimum preferred qualifications:

• 2–10 years of manual machining experience
• Experience with industrial repair, valve repair, or job-shop machining preferred
• Trade school or vocational training preferred but not required

Skills and Abilities Required

• Ability to set up and operate manual lathes and manual mills with limited supervision
• Working knowledge of horizontal boring mills and/or vertical turret lathes preferred
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, sketches, and machining instructions
• Ability to use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, depth micrometers, and height gauges
• Understanding of materials, cutting tools, speeds and feeds, and basic machining techniques
• Ability to re-machine parts for repair while maintaining critical dimensions
• Ability to perform facing, turning, boring, drilling, tapping, milling, and basic threading operations
• Ability to verify completed work against required dimensions and quality standards
• Ability to recognize when parts, setups, or dimensions require clarification before proceeding
• Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others
• Must be able to complete routine work with limited supervision
• Must be able to stand for long periods, reach, handle tools, and perform physical shop work
• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 35 pounds

Typical Work

• Re-machining valve bodies, bonnets, discs, seats, stems, and related components
• Machining weld-repaired parts back to required dimensions
• Machining sealing surfaces, gasket surfaces, counterbores, bores, and threaded areas
• Setting up irregular or repaired components for machining
• Performing dimensional checks before, during, and after machining
• Working with supervisors, inspectors, and other shop personnel to meet customer requirements

Hours

Full-time position: Monday–Friday, 8:00–4:30, with frequent overtime and weekends as needed to meet customer deliveries. Schedule changes may also be required.
