UX Researcher

Overview

An experienced UX Researcher is needed to support customer and dealer experience initiatives within the automotive financing and lending space. This role focuses on understanding the needs, behaviors, and challenges of dealers, dealership customers, business development managers, and sales teams to improve products, services, and digital experiences.

The ideal candidate is a strong qualitative researcher who can simplify complex findings into actionable insights and effectively influence cross-functional teams through data-driven storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end UX research initiatives across the product and service lifecycle, from discovery through post-launch evaluation.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative research using methods such as:
  • User interviews
  • Usability testing
  • Surveys
  • Diary studies
  • Card sorting
  • Tree testing
  • Journey mapping workshops
• Gather insights from dealers, dealership customers, business development managers, sales teams, and other stakeholders.
• Analyze customer feedback, behavioral analytics, engagement data, NPS/MPS results, and usability findings to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Translate complex research findings into clear, actionable recommendations for product, design, and business teams.
• Create and maintain personas, customer journey maps, service blueprints, and other research artifacts.
• Partner closely with Product Managers, UX Designers, Engineers, and business stakeholders to drive customer-centered decision-making.
• Write user stories and contribute to product requirements based on research insights.
• Mentor and coach product team members on UX research and design best practices.
• Manage research operations activities including participant recruitment, screening, incentives, and logistics.
• Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, leadership teams, and executive audiences.

Required Qualifications

Experience

• 5+ years of UX Research experience.
• Strong emphasis on qualitative research (approximately 70%) with complementary quantitative research experience (approximately 30%).
• Proven experience working across the full product or service lifecycle.
• Experience operating independently in ambiguous environments with minimal oversight.
• Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience simplifying complex research findings into concise, actionable insights.

Research Expertise

• Deep knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
• Experience conducting:
  • Usability testing
  • User interviews
  • Surveys
  • Diary studies
  • Card sorting
  • Tree testing
• Ability to synthesize multiple data sources, including customer feedback, analytics, and behavioral data.
• Strong understanding of service design principles.
• Experience creating:
  • Personas
  • Journey maps
  • Service blueprints
• Knowledge of accessibility and inclusive design research practices.
• Commitment to ethical research standards, participant privacy, and data security.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within automotive, automotive software, financial services, banking, lending, or credit-related industries.
• Experience conducting dealer-facing or customer-facing research programs.
• Familiarity with customer engagement analytics and behavioral data tools.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Design, Human Factors, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Portfolio or work samples demonstrating research projects, methodologies, and business impact.

• Ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, including leadership.

Work Arrangement

• Remote position.
• Occasional local travel may be required for in-person dealership interviews or research activities.
• Candidates located in Michigan may be required to work onsite in Dearborn, MI, three days per week.

This is a Contract position based out of Dearborn, MI.

The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr.
