Senior Accountant

Kforce has a client that is Senior Accountant (Hands-On Doer/Controller Succession Track) in Clearwater, FL. The Role: The Senior Accountant will be a true operational worker bee who will roll up their sleeves, learn our wholesale distribution model from the warehouse floor up, and take ownership of daily execution. The candidate reports directly to our retiring Controller initially; succession runway directly to the CFO/Co-Owner.

• 4-7+ years of hands-on GL accounting strictly within wholesale distribution, manufacturing, or physical inventory environments (landed costs, gross margin variance, freight reconciliation, inventory reserves, borrowing base/bank reconciliations)
• No CPA needed; Operational execution, distribution grit, and advanced Excel skills matter far more than credentials
• Experience in ERP distribution platforms (we use SouthWare) and sales tax compliance familiarity (Avalara/multi-state resale certificate handling is a strong plus)
• Hands-on, full-cycle accounting experience - they specifically want someone who can actually perform the accounting functions, not just review other employees' work
• Strong account reconciliation experience - must be capable of personally completing reconciliations and serving as backup when other accounting employees are unavailable
• Broad accounting knowledge/cross-functional capability - the goal is for this person to eventually learn and back up every major function within the accounting department
• Controller-level growth potential - they're looking for someone who can develop into the Controller role as the current Controller eventually retires
• Willingness to be a hands-on "doer" - this sounded particularly important; The client explicitly said they don't want someone who only oversees people; They need someone willing to "get their hands dirty" and perform the work themselves
• Ability to absorb knowledge from the current Controller - there will be a significant knowledge-transfer/succession component
• ERP/system adaptability - they will eventually transition to Odoo, so someone comfortable learning new ERP systems and adapting accounting processes will be valuable; Prior Odoo experience is preferred, not required; The client explicitly said they will provide training
