Patient Registration Representative- FT- Days- BV Registration

US:TX:Brownsville | PATIENT CARE SUPPORT | Full Time Summary The Patient Registration Representative performs general registration functions including appointment scheduling, collection of applicable co‑pays, co‑insurance, and deductibles while utilizing the computer system. The role requires obtaining complete and accurate patient demographic, insurance, financial information, and patient benefits/eligibility. It also includes arranging referral/pre‑authorizations/pre‑certifications approvals from insurance companies and physician offices. Qualifications / Education High School Diploma or GED is required. Computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Good written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate in both English and Spanish. Experience At least one year of related customer service experience. Reasoning ability and good independent judgment. Ability to work efficiently with frequent interruptions while maintaining strong customer service skills. Proficiency with computers and medical terminology is strongly preferred. Responsibilities Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others and incorporating them into services, standards and practices. Provides high‑quality customer service with positive telephone etiquette, treating all customers with dignity and respect. Ensures patient confidentiality requirements are met in accordance with HIPAA policies and procedures. Interviews patients or responsible parties to obtain required demographic information for accurate registration. Obtains and reviews doctor’s orders for proper signature, date, diagnosis and admission status prior to registration. Communicates with doctor’s office to obtain missing or additional diagnosis information for medical necessity. Reviews and confirms patient's financial information, including insurance carrier details, benefit information, policy number, group name, and group number. Identifies appropriate coordination of benefits for the insurance carrier. Uses online verification systems such as TMHP, FISS, Availity, etc., for eligibility checks. Explains rates, estimates charges, and hospital policy regarding upfront collections to patients. Opens and closes cash batches appropriately, following approved naming guidelines. Collects deductibles, co‑pays, unpaid balances, and co‑insurance payments; provides patients with a receipt. Determines financial status and refers patients for financial screening when appropriate. Adheres to the administration on‑call schedule when the Financial Counselor is off duty. Performs appointment scheduling and registers patients for ancillary services. Initiates Order Management to enter orders as needed. Reviews records of prior patient visits to assess status of any unpaid balances. Processes counter payments from patient statements. Ensures referral/pre‑authorization/pre‑certification requirements are met. Completes Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) forms accurately when required. Uses Pathway Compliance Advisor to determine if an ABN must be provided for non‑medically necessary services. Provides patients with the Important Message from Medicare for all Medicare inpatient admissions. Ensures patients receive the Conditions of Admission form and obtains signatures. Scans photo ID, insurance cards, and doctor’s order into the appropriate document type in RegAssist. Uses Form Fast to print or reprint forms and labels. Verifies and places appropriate wrist bracelets on patients with the two required identifiers. Reconciles cash drawer, creates deposit, and follows security measures. Completes necessary reports and patient logs on a daily basis. Assembles patient charts in the proper order for the next day’s schedule. Communicates information about scheduled case procedures to various departments and personnel. Consistently adheres to the Dress Policy. Other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Light/moderate lifting up to 20lbs from floor to shoulder height. Assistance with lifting items more than 20lbs. Light/moderate carrying up to 20lbs. Repetitive bending, stooping/bending, pushing, pulling, and reaching above shoulder.
