Position Description: Position Summary

The Mortgage Repurchase Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of mortgage loan repurchase and indemnification requests from investors, guarantors, and regulatory agencies. This role ensures accurate research, documentation, and resolution of repurchase demands while minimizing financial risk and protecting company assets. The specialist will collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders to investigate claims, respond to requests, and manage timelines for resolution.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, analyze, and respond to repurchase and indemnification demands in accordance with agency, investor, and company guidelines.

• Investigate loan-level documentation, underwriting, closing, and servicing files to determine if a repurchase is necessary.

• Collaborate with underwriting, quality control, secondary marketing, servicing, sales, and legal teams to gather required documentation and evidence.

• Prepare detailed letters, rebuttals, and appeal packages to dispute invalid or inaccurate repurchase demands.

• Negotiate with investors, government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs), and other stakeholders to mitigate losses and resolve repurchase requests.

• Track, monitor, and report on the status of outstanding repurchases.

• Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements, agency guidelines, and company policies.

• Support audits, investor reviews, and regulatory examinations related to repurchase activities.

• Identify trends and recurring issues to recommend process improvements and risk mitigation strategies.

• Maintain accurate and organized documentation of all repurchase activities in the company’s systems of record.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred. Equivalent mortgage industry experience may be considered.

• Experience:

o 3+ years of mortgage servicing, quality control, secondary market, or default risk management experience.

o Prior experience handling mortgage repurchase/indemnification claims strongly preferred.

• Knowledge/Skills:

o Strong understanding of mortgage underwriting, closing, and servicing processes.

o Familiarity with investor guidelines, agency requirements, and regulatory compliance standards.

o Strong analytical and investigative skills with the ability to identify discrepancies and root causes.

o Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft professional letters, rebuttals, and negotiation letters.

o Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); loan servicing and secondary marketing systems experience preferred.

o Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
