Summary and Objective:

The Director of Environmental Health & Safety leads the Company's health, safety, and environmental strategy across its entire TBP footprint and a small commercial motor vehicle (CMV) fleet. Reporting to the VP of Human Resources and based in Newton, NC, this role sets EHS strategy and policy, owns Company-wide regulatory compliance, and directly supervises the two Regional Health & Safety Managers who execute programs at the site level. The Director operates as TBP’s senior safety leader, representing EHS priorities to executive leadership and ownership while building a proactive, Company-wide culture of safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.     Develop and lead TBP’s overall environmental, health, and safety strategy, policies, and programs across all manufacturing plants

2.     Directly supervise, coach, and develop the two Regional Health & Safety Managers, establishing goals, priorities, and performance expectations for the regional team

3.     Own Company-wide compliance with OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental regulations; serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and inspections

4.     Support and partner with the Corporate Fleet Manager to lead the Company's DOT/FMCSA compliance program for its CMV fleet/drivers specifically in regard to matters of health and safety.

5.     Establish and monitor Company-wide TBP safety performance metrics; report results and trends regularly to executive leadership and ownership.

6.     Support and partner with our Risk Management Team aiding in workers' compensation program strategy, carrier/broker relationships, claims oversight, experience modification rate (EMR) management, and return-to-work strategy.

7.     Work with insurance carriers and loss-control representatives as needed to support efforts to reduce risk exposure and control the TBP's total cost of risk.

8.     Work with site level leadership to develop and manage the annual EHS budget, including capital requests for safety equipment, machine guarding, and facility improvements across all sites.

9.     Lead the design of Company-wide EHS training standards and programs, ensuring consistent implementation by the Regional Health & Safety Managers across all plants

10.  Lead investigation review and root-cause trend analysis for serious incidents Company-wide, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and sustained

11.  Own the Company's environmental compliance program, including permits, reporting, and recordkeeping (e.g., air, stormwater, waste) across all facilities

12.  Lead emergency preparedness and business continuity planning at the corporate level, ensuring site-level plans are current and effectively exercised

13.  Champion the Company's safety culture initiatives, including recognition programs, behavior-based safety efforts, and employee engagement in safety ownership

14.  Evaluate and integrate EHS standards, systems, and compliance programs for any new or acquired facilities

15.  Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and ownership on EHS risk, regulatory developments, and industry best practices

Minimum Required Qualifications:

▪      Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety, EHS, Industrial Safety, or a related field

▪      Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive health and safety experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment, including experience in a multi-site leadership

▪      Demonstrated experience directly supervising and developing safety professionals

▪      Strong working knowledge of OSHA general industry regulations, workers' compensation programs, and DOT/FMCSA compliance requirements for commercial motor vehicle fleets

▪      Experience managing a departmental budget and presenting results, risk, and recommendations to senior leadership

▪      Demonstrated ability to build and lead a Company-wide safety strategy and culture across multiple locations

▪      Strong interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills, with comfort engaging hourly employees, plant leadership, and executive leadership/ownership

▪      Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly across the Company's footprint

▪      Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and standard business systems

Desired or Preferred Qualifications:

▪      Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar advanced professional certification

▪      Graduate degree in Safety, Environmental, or a related field

▪      Experience in wood products, packaging, or similar manufacturing environments

▪      Experience with M&A integration, including EHS due diligence and program integration for acquired sites

▪      Experience managing a commercial motor vehicle fleet safety and compliance program

▪      Experience developing safety incentive or behavior-based safety programs

▪      Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred based on regional workforce demographics

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises two direct reports: the Regional Health & Safety Managers. The Corporate EHS Manager holds overall accountability for EHS performance across TBP's entire footprint, providing leadership and coaching at all levels.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and listen, and is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while touring manufacturing and fleet yard areas. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required in designated areas. Work Environment:

This role divides time between a professional office environment and active manufacturing, warehousing, and outdoor fleet yard areas across the Company's footprint. The position involves regular exposure to industrial equipment, moving machinery, forklifts, elevated noise levels, and varying weather conditions. Appropriate PPE is required in designated areas.

Hours of Work:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. This role serves as the Company's primary escalation point for significant safety incidents Company-wide and requires flexibility to respond outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends. The role requires phone accessibility outside of normal business hours.

Travel:

This position requires regular travel (estimated at ~25%) with overnight stays as needed. Additional travel for industry conferences, training, and insurance carrier/broker meetings may also be required.
