Accounting Analyst

The Accounting Analyst supports accounting operations, financial reporting, account reconciliations, regulatory filings, budgeting and forecasting, audit preparation, and ongoing financial analysis.This role partners with accounting and business unit leaders to ensure financial information is accurate, timely and useful in decision support. The Accounting Analyst identifies trends, risks, opportunities, variances, and helps leaders understand financial results and make informed business decisions.This position supports process improvement, internal controls and reporting tools that strengthen financial visibility and operational effectiveness. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, analytical, and initiative-taking accounting professional with strong technical skills and business acumen. They can effectively analyze financial information, identify trends and discrepancies, meet deadlines, and communicate actionable insights. The ideal candidate works well independently and collaboratively and brings strong judgment, organization, and a continuous-improvement mindset to the role. DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Accounting and Financial Reporting Support pre-close and month-end close for timely, accurate reporting Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, research discrepancies, and resolve issues in a timely manner Help prepare and review monthly financial statements and schedules as well as identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes, controls, and efficiencies Maintain appropriate supporting documentation and ensure federal and state filings are accurate and submitted within required deadlines Support internal control activities, audit preparation, and responses to auditor requests Validate financial data for completeness, accuracy, and consistency across systems, reports, reconciliations, and management materials Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting processes, controls, and efficiencies Provide backup for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and billing Financial Analysis and Business Insights Conduct monthly variance analyses, identifying drivers and significant fluctuations Identify key drivers of financial performance, significant fluctuations, trends, risks, and opportunities Analyze past and projected performance to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and improvements to support budgeting, forecasting, planning, and operational decision-making Monitor business-unit revenue, expenses, and profitability Track KPIs, interpret results, and provide management with clear analysis of trends, risks, and opportunities Recommend practical improvements when financial trends, risks, or reporting gaps require action Other Responsibilities Support the annual budget process, periodic forecasts, and financial models Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, templates, and tools that improve visibility into financial performance Support ad hoc financial analysis, reporting requests, and special projects as needed Collaborate with accounting, finance, and operational teams to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy Perform other duties and projects, as assigned REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting Three or more years of experience in accounting, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, or financial reporting Experience with account reconciliations, month-end close, variance analysis, and management reporting required Proficiency with accounting, budgeting, and reporting systems required Experience with Sage Intacct, Ramp, or similar accounting and expense management systems preferred Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required, including formulas, pivot tables, financial modeling, budget forecasting tools, and dashboards Experience building financial reports, dashboards, or reusable templates that improve visibility into financial performance Experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and KPI reporting Ability to analyze large financial datasets and translate findings into clear, actionable insights; excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to present financial information clearly to leaders and staff who may not have a finance background Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills with close attention to detail Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to work independently and meet recurring deadlines Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative, iterative, and process-oriented environment CPA, CMA, MBA, or progress toward a related professional certification preferred but not required Experience in a nonprofit, healthcare, association, or similarly regulated environment preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr Connecticut Hospital Association
