Purpose

Under direct supervision, greets incoming customers in a pleasant and professional manner. Processes payment of customer purchases at retail locations. Counts money to verify amounts and issues receipts for funds received using a cash register.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

1. Greets customers and receives payment; issues receipts, refunds, credits, or change due to customers; package customer purchases; thanks customers for their business.
2. Acknowledges incoming customers in a pleasant manner and provides product information, location, and general store knowledge. Directs customer to product pick-up point, if necessary.
3. Opens and closes-out till and accurately documents all transactions, makes accurate change, verifies credit cards and checks, and balances receipts.
4. Provides prompt and efficient telephone service.
5. Keeps work area clean and neat.
6. Assists in pricing and stocking inventory, display preparation and maintenance, and maintains quality store presentation.
7. Participates in annual physical inventory activities.
8. Understands and observes all safety procedures and practices in order to prevent injury to self or co-workers; attends periodic safety meetings as required; may recommend changes to improve safety procedures.
9. Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and six (6) months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Competencies

• Strong customer service skills both face-to-face and telephone
• Working knowledge in the use and operation of a cash register
• Good mathematical aptitude
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to be detailed oriented

Work Environment / Physical Activity

• Subject to both typical office environment and outside locations with temperature and weather variations.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds.
