Licensed Practical Nurse

The Licensed Practical Nurse provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. They serve as a direct channel of communication between the patient and the Registered Nurse. The LPN renders personal hygiene care and participates in formulating and updating the patient's care plan. The LPN administers medications and treatments, including respiratory therapy modalities, and records them appropriately. Infection control policies and practices are applied and enforced by the LPN. The LPN organizes time, effort, and energy in rendering care and exercises judgment in establishing priorities. They report incidents and changes in the patient's condition to the Registered Nurse. In stressful, unusual, and emergency situations, appropriate actions are taken. This position requires establishing good interpersonal relationships and demonstrating understanding, patience, and tact. The LPN accepts and applies constructive criticism. Patient instruction is provided during hospitalization and upon discharge by the Licensed Practical Nurse. The LPN assists with the orientation and continued learning of new staff members and students. Professional and clinical competence is maintained through active participation in continuing education programs. New knowledge and skills are applied and shared.
