Summary We seek an experienced, team-centered Mental Performance Coach to support U.S. Ski & Snowboard athletes across 11 sports. The role focuses on building mental skills, performance plans, and resilience to enable athletes to perform consistently at the international level, working collaboratively with coaches and a multidisciplinary team. Roles & Responsibilities Conduct individual and group mental performance sessions for athletes. Develop and implement mental skills assessments and individualized programs. Facilitate workshops on focus, confidence, pressure management, and team cohesion. Support athletes through competition preparation, slumps, injury recovery, and career transitions. Build confidential relationships to encourage engagement. Teach core mental skills: attention, self-regulation, confidence, imagery, goal setting, self-talk, resilience, motivation. Develop coping strategies for setbacks and media pressure. Monitor psychological wellbeing and stress load using validated tools. Collaborate with coaches and medical staff to address distress or burnout. Maintain accurate records in the high-performance departmental system. Lead 2–3 part-time mental performance contractors. Educate coaches and staff on psychological principles and performance culture. Advise on training environments fostering safety, growth mindset, and intrinsic motivation. Stay current with applied sport psychology research and innovations. Contribute to the organization’s mental performance framework and best practices. Operate within an allocated budget and manage travel as required. Competencies & Experience Master’s degree or higher in Sport Psychology or related field. Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC) or equivalent designation. Minimum 5 years working with professional or elite athletes. Experience delivering individualized mental performance programs across diverse athlete groups. Strong knowledge of evidence‑based mental skills training. Understanding of sport-specific psychosocial demands or ability to adapt. Prior multidisciplinary high‑performance team experience. Experience supporting injury rehabilitation. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills. Strong attention to detail and multitasking ability. Leader with empathy and results focus. System implementation experience for staff and contractor accountability. Comfortful with programs for athletes aged 14‑40. Active passport and local licensure applicable. Preferred Experience with ski or snowboard athletes or high‑consequence extreme action sports. Familiarity with trauma‑informed approaches. Training or experience in grief counselling or mental health triage. Knowledge of athlete monitoring tools and psychometric instruments. Physical Requirements Lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather for extended periods. Must travel domestically and internationally for training camps and competitions.
