Quality Inspector

The Quality Inspector performs first article, in-process, and final inspections on medical plastic injection molded parts, ensuring they meet stringent quality standards and customer specifications. This role uses a variety of inspection tools and metrology equipment, including CMM/VMM systems, to verify dimensions and features in accordance with blueprints, GD&T, and ISO requirements.

Responsibilities

• Perform first article inspections on medical plastic parts to verify conformity to engineering drawings and specifications.
• Conduct in-process inspections on plastic injection molded parts to ensure consistent quality throughout production.
• Carry out final inspections to confirm that finished components meet all dimensional and visual requirements.
• Use hand inspection tools such as micrometers and other precision measuring instruments to take accurate measurements.
• Interpret and work from blueprints and technical drawings, applying GD&T principles to evaluate features and tolerances.
• Operate CMM/VMM and other metrology equipment on a daily basis to perform detailed dimensional inspections.
• Utilize microscopes and visual inspection techniques to detect defects, surface imperfections, and nonconformities.
• Document inspection results clearly and accurately, supporting quality control and quality assurance processes.
• Follow ISO-based procedures and quality standards to maintain compliance and consistency in inspection activities.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to communicate inspection findings and support corrective actions.
• Participate in training on Zeiss and Calypso systems and apply this knowledge to improve inspection capabilities.
• Work effectively on a shift with limited supervision, demonstrating strong self-management and leadership capabilities.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of inspection experience, preferably within the medical industry.
• Experience with in-process and final inspection of plastic injection molded parts.
• Hands-on experience using hand inspection tools such as micrometers and other precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
• Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Experience with ISO-based quality systems and standards.
• Proficiency with CMM or other vision inspection machines and metrology equipment.
• Experience with microscope and visual inspection for small or detailed components.
• Experience in quality control and quality assurance practices.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document inspection results.
• Willingness to work 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.) and train on 1st shift for 2–3 weeks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Manufacturing experience in a precision or regulated environment.
• Experience with VMM and other advanced metrology tools.
• Familiarity with Zeiss CMM equipment and Calypso software, with training provided for the right candidate.
• Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and show leadership on shift.
• Openness to learning new tools, technologies, and inspection methods.

Work Environment

The facility has expanded from 30,000 to over 80,000 square feet, reflecting substantial growth and investment in infrastructure. This role is on 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.) with a shift differential, and initial training occurs on 1st shift for 2–3 weeks. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Circle Pines, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
