Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities


The Accountant II supports the financial operations of Fairmont State University by performing various accounting, budget or audit tasks related to capital projects and fixed assets

Fixed Assets - Responsible for fixed asset process including but not limited to identifying, documenting, recording, reconciling, monitoring, and disposing of long-term physical assets, such as buildings, vehicles, equipment, and software

Maintain the fixed assets subledger and complete postings related to gain or loss on disposal of fixed assets

Collaborate with Finance areas to ensure timely and accurate reporting of fixed assets and ensure the fixed asset subledger reconciles with the general ledger

Collaborate with the campus community to ensure all assets are physically tagged and any variances identified through the periodic asset tag inspections are identified and addressed

Capital/Campus Projects - Responsible for capital/campus project process including but not limited to setup and closeout of project, documenting, recording, reconciling, and monitoring the financial performance of long-term projects like infrastructure, construction, and capital improvements including grant funded projects

Maintain capital project funds and complete postings related to Construction in Process

Collaborate with Finance area, project managers, facilities and operation teams to ensure timely and accurate reporting of capital/campus projects and ensure variances are identified and addressed

Post and process journal entries and adjustments

Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including gathering audit documentation and completing audit workpapers

Maintain compliance with institutional policies, fund accounting guidelines, and standard regulatory frameworks.

Minimum Required Education


Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related business field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

Minimum Required Qualifications


1-3 years prior experience with Finance, Accounting or Budgets, however, any equivalent combination of education and/or experience is acceptable which provides an applicant with the listed knowledge, skills, abilities and capability to perform the essential functions of the job

High attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication skills

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including formulas, data sorting, and pivot tables)

Strict ethical standards for handling data confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications


Experience with capital assets, projects or fund accounting

Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standard Board (GASB)

Experience with capital assets, project and/or fund accounting

Banner or wvOASIS experience
