Criminal Investigator

DutiesDuties listed are at the full performance level.Conducts criminal, civil, and administrative investigations involving violations of federal environmental, natural resource, and cultural resource laws on National Forest System lands.Leads and coordinates complex and sensitive investigations, including those involving multiple jurisdictions, multiple judicial districts, or joint operations with other federal, state, or local agencies.Plans and executes investigative strategies, defines objectives, develops leads, gathers evidence, and resolves conflicting or limited information in cases involving criminal activities, internal misconduct, and violations of federal statutes.Prepares affidavits, subpoenas, search warrants, arrest warrants, investigative reports, and other documentation required for legal proceedings.Conducts undercover operations, surveillance activities, interviews, interrogations, and utilizes confidential informants and sources to identify suspects and gather actionable intelligence.Works closely with the U.S. Attorney's Office, Department of Justice, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys by providing investigative support, expert guidance, and evidence preparation for presentation to Federal Grand Juries and trial courts.Coordinates enforcement actions across multiple agencies when necessary.
