Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care by delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed. They evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans while educating patients on the purpose and procedures of treatments and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Conduct physician-prescribed treatments using various respiratory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive.
• Perform chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal).
• Monitor oximetry and capnography according to policy.
• Review patient chest x-rays and perform basic EKG and arrhythmia recognition.
• Assist in procedures related to respiratory care, such as bronchoscopy and chest tube placement.
• Provide tracheostomy care and perform arterial punctures as needed.
• Ensure appropriate data entry and charging for respiratory therapy.
• Communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency.
• Maintain equipment functionality and perform preventative maintenance as required.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Current Virginia license as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Experience in intensive respiratory care is preferred.
• BLS and ACLS certification required.
