Health & Welfare Benefits:

Persons employed for temporary employment are not eligible to participate in the College's Health and Welfare plan or option fringe benefit plan in conjunction with their employment. Current Work Schedule (days, hours):

Work hours are scheduled in alignment with project demands and departmental needs. While a typical schedule may fall within standard business hours (e.g., Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.), this schedule may be adjusted at the District's discretion. Work may include evenings, weekends, or varying shifts as needed. Assignments will be coordinated based on project timelines and operational priorities.

Overview:

This temporary Professional Expert assignment provides specialized technical construction expertise on a project-specific basis and is supplemental to the existing College staffing resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Provide specialized technical expertise and project-specific advisory support for assigned capital construction and renovation projects.
2. Assist with reviewing constructability reviews of plans, specifications, phasing strategies, and technical project requirements to identify potential risks, conflicts, and construction challenges.
3. Analyze complex field conditions, infrastructure impacts, sequencing concerns, and construction feasibility issues affecting project implementation.
4. Conduct technical evaluation of building systems, construction materials, and field conditions to support project planning and implementation decisions.
5. Review construction progress, field conditions, and technical project issues and provide recommendations regarding constructability, safety, and operational impacts.
6. Provide project-specific technical coordination with architects, engineers, consultants, inspectors, and contractors regarding assigned construction projects.
7. Assist in evaluating technical compliance issues related to applicable building codes, regulatory requirements, and Division of the State Architect ( DSA ) construction implementation requirements.
8. Provide technical input regarding renovation feasibility, temporary swing space considerations, utility impacts, and campus operational constraints associated with assigned projects.
9. Assist in reviewing technical aspects of proposed change orders, unforeseen site conditions, requests for information (RFIs), and contractor claims from a constructability and project-impact perspective.
10. Prepare technical analyses, reports, and recommendations related to assigned construction projects and specialized project assignments.

Qualifications:

1. Equivalent to graduation from a regionally accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in construction management, facilities planning, engineering, construction technology, business or public administration, or a closely related field, and

2. Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in construction project management which has included managing the construction and design of progressively complex projects. 

a. Additional experience at the level described above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Working Environment:

Employees partly work in an office environment and partly work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspace, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with staff and/or public and private representatives and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.

Physical Demands:

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer, as well as to work in the field; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various District and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is partially a sedentary office, partially a field classification, and standing in and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
