Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, this role oversees project cost accounting across active ground-up developments and capital improvement projects.You will play a critical role in job-cost tracking, vendor payment workflows, budget variance analysis, and operational reporting to ensure projects remain on budget and financially compliant.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Cost Accounting: Manage high-volume accounts payable for active construction and real estate development projects; ensure accurate coding and proper approvals.Budget Tracking & Variance Analysis: Maintain detailed job-cost ledgers, track budget changes, evaluate cost variances, and ensure proper documentation in alignment with internal controls.Vendor & Contract Management: Coordinate timely payments to general contractors, subcontractors, and vendors while resolving invoice disputes or discrepancies promptly.Reconciliations & Reporting: Assist leadership with monthly project reconciliations, work-in-progress (WIP) tracking, and custom financial reporting for executive reviews.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Project Managers, operational leaders, and external vendors to maintain seamless accounting workflows.Special Projects: Support the Assistant Controller and broader finance team with ad-hoc financial analysis and audit preparation as needed.Qualifications & SkillsEducation: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business field required.Experience: 2+ years of accounting experience, ideally within commercial real estate, construction, or project-based accounting environments.Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Experience with real estate accounting platforms (e.g., MRI, Yardi, or similar ERP software) is highly preferred.Core Competencies: Exceptional attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to prioritize multiple project deadlines in a dynamic setting.Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.
