Store Softlines Manager - Hickory, NC

Overview Academy Sports + Outdoors is a leading retailer dedicated to making sports and the outdoors accessible to everyone. The Softlines Sales Manager is responsible for the overall management and execution of operational excellence for the entire store, focusing on supervision and management of the Softlines Sales team (Apparel and Footwear). Key Responsibilities Full‑time position averaging 45‑50 hours/week. Overall management of the execution and operational excellence of the entire store. Management responsibility for Softlines Sales and active participation in personnel decisions: selection, training, discipline, termination, and development. Provide departmental direction to the Softlines Sales team and daily supervisory oversight to team leads and members to ensure exceptional customer service. Develop and implement strategy to achieve weekly and monthly operational goals, including sales, staffing, training, payroll, hours and scheduling. Manage workforce productivity, efficiency and process improvement projects and initiatives. Ensure compliance with sales, safety and security practices, local, state and federal regulations, and complete required audits (e.g., firearm sales). Adhere to company standards including zoning, safety, policies and procedures. Participate in floor walks and create implementation plans based on feedback. Complete required certifications: Firearms Sales Certification, Power Industrial Truck Certification, and Academy Leadership University. Provide supervisory oversight for the talent lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, development and coaching. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. At least three years of relevant work experience required. Demonstrated success leading departments of up to 40 people to drive operational excellence and sales targets. Exceptional supervisory and management skills with ability to coach on store policies and expectations. Excellent customer service orientation and strong communication skills. Strong business acumen with understanding of market and competition and orientation to profitability. Working knowledge of inventory software, order processing systems, payroll systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). Proficient in basic mathematical computations and decision‑making. Physical Requirements & Attendance Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach, and lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
