The Senior Scientist, Study Management position plays a central role in executing and overseeing complex in vivo procedures across small and large animal species in a Contract Research Organization (CRO) setting. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in vivo techniques, regulatory compliance, and will act as a subject matter expert (SME).

As a Senior Scientist Study Management, you will independently perform routine and specialized procedures in small and large animal species while maintaining strict adherence to USDA, GLP, DEA, and institutional (IACUC) guidelines and protocols. Specialized techniques may include, but are not limited to various behavior testing, complex procedures (such as cerebral spinal fluid collection), and various imaging techniques (such as echocardiograms) while ensuring accurate dosing documentation and real-time monitoring of animal responses.

You will act as the primary technical supervisor for assigned active in vivo research studies in partnership with In Vivo Services leadership. This includes developing execution plans, ensuring study milestones are met, and coordinating with cross-functional teams to maintain study continuity. Provide training and technical guidance to new and junior staff. Act as a SME for complex procedures and ensure best practices are followed.

This position will also involve other administrative duties including reviewing and editing study protocols for proposed research projects, maintaining and updating study-specific documentation, and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as necessary to ensure current procedures align with regulatory and operational requirements.

All procedures will be documented appropriately in accordance with Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 58, which governs the conduct of nonclinical laboratory studies. You will be trained to capture data electronically in a 21 CFR, Part 58 compliant electronic data management system.

All responsibilities are expected to be performed with minimal instruction, and you are expected to independently perform duties as described.

Education and Experience

• Minimum of BS/BA degree in lab animal science related field (e.g. biology, pre-med, chemistry, lab animal)
• 810 years of direct experience in lab animal science preferred (minimum 5 years required).
• Proficiency with large and small animals

Certifications or Licenses

• AALAS Accreditation preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of regulatory compliance and agencies (USDA, OLAW, GLP, AAALAC).
• Knowledge of animal care and use and regulatory expectations.
• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Self-directed individual with the ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with limited direction, competing priorities under tight deadlines.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to interact with team members, clients, vendors and other third parties.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with individuals across various disciplines to ensure alignment.
• Ability to use digital communication tools (video conferencing, chat platforms, etc)

Travel

• Ability to accommodate evening, overnight or weekend travel, including potential extended trips to attend training, meetings, conduct fieldwork, or meet with clients.

On-Site

• This position requires full-time on-site presence at our Discovery Labs location.
• This position will require access to lab animal spaces.

Immunizations and Screenings

• This position will require working with animals (e.g. Nonhuman Primates, Rabbits, Rats, Mice).

Essential Status

• Essential for Closure: This position may be required to go on-site during company closures to sustain the life and care of animals/biological materials. Examples of company closures include snow days, special shutdowns, etc.
• Potential inclusion in weekend and/or holiday rotation.
