Bus Driver

PRIMARY PURPOSE :

School Bus Drivers are responsible for transporting students safely to and from school and provides assistance as requested by the transportation office. Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS :

• Reports to Director of Transportation

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

The employee will be required to perform any other position-related duties requested by the Transportation Manager and/or Director of Transportation.

• Transports students safely to and from school. Assume responsibility for the safety of school children in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from school
• Signals children when to cross street or highway and assures that children are safely across upon departure from bus
• Maintains discipline; reports unruly behavior to principal of school or to supervisor
• Maintains CDL License to be able to operate a school bus
• Supervises pupil respect of others on bus
• Inspects interior bus at end of each run
• Maintains cleanliness of bus interior
• Pre-trip and post-trip inspection of bus each day
• Report delays and accidents
• Accepts other duties from the transportation manager
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :

• Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner
• Maintains CDL License to be able to operate a school bus
• As required by law, must pass medical examination annually and maintain "S" & "P" endorsements
• Clean driving records

• Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition
• Relaxed and calm demeanor
• Ability to relate to students, parents and school system personnel
• Ability to complete various forms and records including; route sheets, time sheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports, etc.
• Maintain pleasant rapport with students and parents.
• Must be able to accept changes and be flexible in routine.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed above represent minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skill and/or ability necessary. • Light Work: Exerting 5 to 10 pounds of force occasionally.
• Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arms(s) in any direction.
• Handling: Holding, grasping or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as pushing of buttons.
• Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending legs and spine
• Noise: The noise intensity level to which the worker is exposed in the job environment. (Moderate)
• Usual lifting activity: Sedentary, lifting up to 10 lbs. maximum and carrying small items
• Requires occasional bending, and speaking (these activities are an essential part of the job at random intervals)
• Requires frequent hearing, and reaching (these activities are a usual and customary part of the job.)
• Requires constant seeing (this activity is continually occurring as part of the job)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS :

• Current Act 34, Act 114 and Act 151 clearances
• School Health Form (including physical and TB test)
• PDE Form 6004 and Act 168 disclosure forms
