The nurse will ensure accurate patient registration, insurance verification, and eligibility screening while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations. Strong communication, organizational skills, and proficiency with medical terminology and billing processes are essential to support patient care teams and facilitate smooth operations.
Responsibilities:
- Safeguard and preserve patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and hospital policies.
- Ensure a safe patient environment and adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide excellent guest relations by warmly greeting patients, physicians, and visitors and addressing their concerns.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, staff, insurance companies, and physicians.
- Conduct patient registration, insurance verification, and eligibility screening accurately and timely.
- Assist with Hospital Presumptive Eligibility and Uncompensated Care program screening and application processes.
- Maintain organized patient records, file orders correctly, and scan documents as required.
- Pre-register scheduled patients and prepare necessary paperwork to expedite registration upon arrival.
- Meet productivity standards by completing a minimum number of registrations per shift.
- Coordinate with eligibility vendors and other departments to ensure smooth patient processing.
- Adhere strictly to departmental policies and procedures as directed by management.
- Limit personal phone usage to breaks and maintain professional appearance and conduct.
- Schedule outpatient procedures and manage front desk admitting functions as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent; continuing education preferred.
- At least one year of experience in a high-volume healthcare facility or medical office setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and insurance billing processes.
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel, and ability to navigate multiple screens efficiently.
- Typing speed of 45 words per minute or higher.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
- Strict adherence to HIPAA and patient confidentiality laws.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to off-site outpatient locations.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or Chinese (Mandarin).
- Medical billing experience.
- Experience working with hospital eligibility vendors and outpatient scheduling systems.
- Must handle high-pressure, fast-paced work environments efficiently.
- Strict confidentiality and professionalism required at all times.
- Work involves frequent interaction with patients, providers, and insurance entities.
- Compliance with all safety and regulatory policies is mandatory.
- Work schedule includes full shifts in a high-volume healthcare setting.
- Shift assignments may vary depending on department needs, including emergency and outpatient areas.
- Timely completion of registration and pre-registration within established timeframes is required.
