Area Supervisor

General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team, responsible for a specific area of the store and for general operations and supervision when acting as Manager on Duty. Responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and executing company operational processes. Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors. Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment. Immediately correct or report unsafe conditions to Store Leadership. Secure the building: entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area. Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits. Ensure customer safety: accident prevention, accident reporting, and emergency procedures. Test fire alarm systems and respond to after‑hours alarms as requested. Customer Service Treat all customers, associates, and leaders with respect and professionalism. Demonstrate courtesy and friendliness at all times. Recognize associates using the company's recognition programs. Personal and Store Brand Represent and support the company brand at all times. Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with Dress Code and ensure associates adhere to it. Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard. Perform daily trash removal. General Merchandising Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns meet company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and follow‑up. Process all merchandise and non‑merchandise inbound deliveries promptly. Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms. Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor. Secure and process back‑stock in accordance with company policy. Perform floor moves, promotional signing, re‑wraps, and loss‑reduction tasks. Front End Supervision and Operations Execute company best practices and maximize productivity. Ensure associates meet front‑end standards and maintain pace. Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control, and front‑end procedures. Control break schedules, ensure equipment operation, and maintain proper supplies. Expedite go‑backs, secure tagging, and ticketing of merchandise. Teach the “Scan and Bag” best practice and maintain merchandise salability. Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager Conduct cash pulls and bank deposits per company policy. Control front‑end when required and handle refund approval, associate purchase approval, and cash handling procedures. Administer payroll tasks: punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission, and payroll reporting. Perform other duties as assigned. Competencies Manages work processes Business acumen Plans, aligns & prioritizes Builds talent Collaborates Leads by example Communicates effectively Ensures accountability & execution Qualifications and Special Skills Excellent verbal communication skills Fluency in English Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications Basic mathematical calculation skills for retail Ability to work evenings and weekends Physical Requirements / ADA Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs Spend up to 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and assigned supplies Stockroom shifts may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 lbs Supervisory Responsibilities Retail associates Stockroom leads (where applicable) Disclaimer This job description is a summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Pay and Benefits Base pay range for this role: $16.50 – $17.00 per hour, dependent on experience and other factors.
