Material Handler

Job Brief

Innerpak Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Material Handler to support our manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for moving, staging, organizing, and supplying materials throughout the production facility to ensure machines and production teams have the materials they need to operate efficiently.

The ideal candidate is proactive, organized, safety-conscious, and able to communicate effectively with machine operators and production leadership. The Material Handler plays an important role in minimizing unnecessary machine downtime by anticipating production material needs

Job Responsibilities

Production Support

• Supply production machine operators with the appropriate materials needed for scheduled jobs. Stage materials in advance for upcoming production runs and machine changeovers.

• Monitor production areas for upcoming material needs rather than waiting for a machine to run out of material.

• Coordinate with machine operators, leads, and other employees to prioritize material movement based on the production schedule.

• Assist production employees with material-related tasks during setups and changeovers when needed.

Material Handling

• Safely move raw materials, work-in-process, and finished products throughout the manufacturing facility

• Transport corrugated materials, rolls, pallets, finished products and other production-related materials as required

• Remove completed product and excess material from production areas in timely manner

• Return unused materials to the appropriate storage locations after jobs are completed

• Assist with loading, unloading, receiving, and movement of materials when required

Material Verification & Organization

• Verify that materials being delivered to production correspond with the correct job or production requirements

• Maintain organized material staging and storage areas

• Follow established procedures for handling and storing materials to prevent damage and unnecessary waste

• Communicate material shortages, damaged materials, incorrect materials, or other concerns to production leadership promptly

Facility Maintenance

• Help ensure work areas and material storage locations remain clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards

• Perform other production or material-handling duties as assigned based on operation needs

Safety Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies and established forklift/material-handling procedures

• Perform basic inspections of forklifts and other assigned material-handling equipment and report safety or mechanical concerns

• Maintain awareness of pedestrians, machine operators, equipment, and other forklift traffic

• Secure and transport loads safely and never exceed equipment capacities

• Immediately report damaged equipment, unsafe material stacks, blocked aisles, spills, or other hazards

• Follow required personal protective equipment (PPE) policies

• Stop and seek assistance whenever a material movement cannot be completed safely.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience

• Previous experience in manufacturing, warehouse, shipping/receiving, or material handling is preferred

• Previous forklift experience is strongly preferred

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to safely operate or learn to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment

• Ability to read job tickets, job information, material identification, labels, and basic production documentation

• Strong organization and communication skills

• Ability to prioritize multiple material requests in a fast-paced manufacturing environment

• Dependable attendance and punctuality

• Ability to work independently while also working effectively as part of the production team

• Willingness to assist in other areas of the facility when business needs require it.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to repeatedly get on and off forklifts or other material-handling equipment throughout the shift

• Ability to work around moving machinery, forklifts, corrugated materials and other manufacturing equipment

• Ability to work in a production environment where noise levels, and activity levels may vary

Performance Expectations

• Keep production areas supplied with the correct materials with minimal interruption.

• Plan ahead and anticipate upcoming production needs.

• Respond promptly when operators or production leadership request materials.

• Maintain accurate and organized material locations.

• Handle materials carefully to prevent damage and unnecessary waste.

• Communicate clearly when materials are missing, damaged, incorrect, or unavailable.

• Operate forklifts and other equipment safely at all times.

• Work effectively with employees across different machines, departments, and shifts.

• Maintain a sense of urgency while never compromising safety.

• Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and follow through on tasks without requiring constant supervision.

Schedule

Late Split Shift: 10AM-8PM (Monday-Thursday)

Role in Production

The Material Handler is an important part of Innerpak's overall production process. Machine operators should be able to focus on setting up, operating, and monitoring their equipment rather than repeatedly leaving their work areas to locate or retrieve materials.

For that reason, the Material Handler is expected to work proactively rather than reactively - reviewing production needs, staging upcoming materials, communicating with operators and leads, and keeping material moving throughout the facility.

Success in this position is measured not simply by how much material is moved, but by how effectively the Material Handler contributes to safe, organized, and uninterrupted production.
