JOB PURPOSE: The PAYS Program Manager is responsible for oversight of the office’s educational partnership initiatives including the College’s flagship pre-college program: Pomona College Academy for Youth Success (PAYS), an endowed college access program for local high school students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The PAY Program Manager exercises discretion and independent judgment in administering PAYS operations, coordinating staff and student programming, advising students and families, assessing outcomes, and recommending program improvements. The PAYS Program Manager leads and manages the day-to-day administration, implementation, and continuous development of the PAYS Program. The position exercises significant judgment and autonomy in coordinating program operations, supervising staff, advising students and families, developing programming, assessing outcomes, and advancing the goals of PAYS. The PAYS Program Manager performs the following essential duties and responsibilities: Plan, coordinate, and implement all aspects of the PAYS Program , including academic and social programming, student recruitment, application and admissions processes, and strategies supporting the retention, persistence, and matriculation of PAYS Scholars. Supervise the Educational Outreach Post-Baccalaureate position , providing coordination of its activities, operations, and integration with the broader PAYS program. Direct and manage PAYS Coordinators (work-study students) , assigning and prioritizing daily responsibilities, monitoring performance, providing feedback and professional development, and completing required personnel documentation and processes. Direct and manage the PAYS Summer Staff , consisting of approximately 20 current Pomona College students and/or PAYS alumni attending other colleges and universities. Provide leadership, coordination, and performance management for: Teaching Assistants Community Advisors Math Tutor Writing Tutor Lead and coordinate the PAYS Student Advisory Board (SAB) , supporting student leadership, development, engagement, and meaningful participation in program planning and decision-making. Oversee the mandated training for all PAYS Staff, including: Training on the following: Minors on Campus compliance Mandated Reporter obligations Student safety and well-being Incident reporting Appropriate supervision of minor Convene and facilitate the PAYS Advisory Board selection process , coordinating with faculty, staff, administrators, and students to evaluate and select program participants. Direct and coordinate year-round PAYS activities , establishing priorities, timelines, processes, and implementation strategies to ensure consistent and effective program delivery. Design, organize, and facilitate leadership training for PAYS Summer Staff , developing training content and ensuring staff are prepared to fulfill their program responsibilities. Design, organize, and facilitate leadership training for PAYS Coordinators during the academic year , identifying training needs and developing resources and professional development opportunities to support effective student leadership. Develop, maintain, and implement the PAYS college advising model , including: Maintaining current knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, and college advising practices and trends. Identifying, evaluating, and implementing best practices in college access and college readiness programming. Providing individualized college planning and advising to current PAYS students and their parents/families. Developing individualized academic, college preparation, and extracurricular plans aligned with each student’s goals, interests, and needs. Establish, monitor, and assess programmatic goals and objectives for PAYS , tracking progress, identifying areas for improvement, and using data and program outcomes to inform decision-making. Develop, analyze, and compose the annual PAYS Program summary report , documenting program activities, outcomes, learning outcomes, accomplishments, challenges, and recommendations for continued program development. I dentify, develop, and implement programmatic improvements and changes to PAYS , using assessment findings, student needs, emerging practices, and program priorities to strengthen program effectiveness. Develop, maintain, and update web-based and print materials for the PAYS Program , ensuring program information is accurate, current, accessible, and effectively communicates program opportunities and outcomes. Represent the Draper Center and the PAYS Program within the Division of Student Affairs , participating actively in professional development meetings, collaborative initiatives, and institutional planning efforts. Maintain and apply current knowledge of educational outreach programs, youth development models, college access, and approaches to student success in higher education , incorporating relevant practices into PAYS programming and operations. Develop, implement, and manage program assessment activities in alignment with division-wide assessment priorities, using findings to evaluate program effectiveness and inform continuous improvement. Undertake additional responsibilities and special projects as assigned , exercising appropriate judgment and initiative in support of the goals and objectives of the PAYS Program and other Draper Center activities. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Additional directly relevant professional experience may be considered and is strongly valued, particularly experience that demonstrates progressively increasing responsibility in areas related to the essential functions of the position. Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. Experience: Minimum three years of experience working in K–12 classrooms or with K–12 students in academic, college access, youth development, or extracurricular programs. Preferred: Master’s degree, Bilingual Spanish and prior experience working with college students. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS: Ensure PAYS programming is implemented in accordance with applicable College policies and youth protection requirements, including expectations related to minors on campus, mandated reporting, appropriate boundaries, incident reporting, supervision, safety, and student well-being. This position must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the job or must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other knowledge, skills and abilities not listed below. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations especially those underrepresented in higher education. Understanding of program development. Excellent public speaking skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Knowledge of student and youth development theories and practices is preferred. REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday.Weekend and evening work hours are required.Travel may be required.Lives in residence during staff training and the summer program (6 weeks per year). Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, benefits eligible. The yearly salary for this role is $70,304 per year with a competitive benefits package.
