Climate Action Technician

$23.08 - $26.76 per hour

CLOSING DATE: July 17th, 2026 POSITION: Climate Action Technician SALARY: $23.08-$26.76, per hour REPORTS TO: Climate Action Coordinator LOCATION: Environmental Trust,Nespelem, WA Basic Functions: This is a Non-Exempt position. Performs The Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation (CTCR) Environmental Trust Department (ETD) Climate Action Technician primarily supports and assists ETD by providing climate change adaptation communication, guidance, and support to CTCR government operations. The technician will serve as the support for the Climate Action coordinator lead for the CTCR Climate Change Steering Committee (CCSC) and its tasks. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: This position typically requires an Associate's Degree in environmental studies, science or policy, public health science or policy, or a closely related discipline in cultural/natural resource management or policy (or related subject area) and preferably 24 months experience involving climate or environmental regulatory work, public health, ecology, anthropology, and/or emergency management, cultural or natural resources management and planning in a complex multidisciplinary environment (i.e., dealing with numerous objectives, often conflicting). College level training in climate change is highly desirable. Requires to possess and maintain a valid BIA and WA State driver's license and be eligible for CCT vehicle insurance. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires knowledge of Tribal sovereignty, climate change risks, facilitation and consensus building, project planning, management, and program development. Requires knowledge of Tribal cultural values related to Reservation communities and Tribal issues. Requires technical knowledge of climate adaptation, mitigation and justice, and climate impacts to human health and welfare. Requires technical knowledge to assess and analyze environmental data, technical and business writing, contract administration, project management and capacity building. Requires technical knowledge of grant writing and management. Requires working knowledge of Native American culture, organizations, and activities. Requires working knowledge of climate and environmental justice impacts that are unique to Tribal people. Requires working knowledge of best available climate science data sets including TEK, Western, and Indigenous science, environmental and climate standards, regulations, strategies, policies and laws. Requires skill in effective relationship management with a wide variety of stakeholders (members of the public, Tribal and non-Tribal governments, non-governmental organizations, scientific and academic communities). Requires skill in climate intersectionality and interdisciplinary work. Requires skill in consensus-building and/or negotiation to achieve common understanding and mutual agreement on activities, outputs, and decisions. Requires interpersonal skills including oral and written communication to the effect of note-taking, technical summaries, and professional presentations. Requires skill in planning and organizing meetings, facilitating discussions, and, implementing, evaluating, and managing interdisciplinary programs and projects. Requires skill in and knowledge of virtual teleconferencing platforms. Requires skill in utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) suite products and Paycom software. Requires demonstrated skill in communication and collaboration, and success in capacity development and obtaining external funding. Requires the ability to understand how Tribal cultural values interaction with position and duties. Requires ability to act in a professional manner with diverse groups of people to develop solutions and complete tasks. Requires ability to work independently and take initiative with a patient and proactive nature. Requires ability to adapt in a rapidly changing environment. Requires ability to assist in leading and innovating with empathy and equity by empowering others to work toward common goals. Requires ability to initiate, plan, analyze, interpret, and report on policy and legal issues related to climate change. Requires ability to communicate climate risks and vulnerabilities to the public and professionals. Requires ability to communicate and summarize technical data in meaningful and actionable ways. Requires ability to write, obtain, and manage grants. Requires ability to pay attention to detail, prioritize tasks, effectively multi-task, and manage an evolving workload. Requires ability to master new concepts and techniques. Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing. TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED. If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
