Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced  Registered Nurse (RN) to join a  high-acuity Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele) unit  with  Progressive Care Unit (PCU) crossover responsibilities. This role involves caring for patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring, post-cardiac intervention recovery, and complex medical management.

The unit functions as a  mixed-level care environment , combining  Med Surg, Telemetry, and PCU  patients. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong assessment skills, proficiency in cardiac monitoring, and the ability to manage a 1:6 patient ratio  in a fast-paced acute care setting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a mixed MS/Tele and PCU setting.

• Monitor, interpret, and document cardiac rhythms, intervening promptly when changes occur.

• Administer and manage  cardiac drips (no titration)and other intravenous medications.

• Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral line management (including PICC lines).

• Manage oxygen therapy, chest tubes, tracheostomies, and other respiratory interventions.

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team including physicians, respiratory therapists, and physical therapists to optimize patient outcomes.

• Participate in  Rapid Response and  Code Blue situations as required.

• Provide education and support to patients and their families regarding care plans and discharge processes.

• Document all assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the  Meditech charting system.

• Maintain compliance with infection control, safety, and quality standards.

• Attend and complete a mandatory  five-shift clinical orientation week (36–40 hours) .

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Active RN license (state-specific and in good standing).

• Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care experience in an MS/Tele or PCU/Stepdown environment.

• Required patient ratio experience: 1:6 (1:5 experience may be considered if clearly documented).

• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

  • NIHSS (Stroke Scale Certification)

• Required Skills:

  • IV therapy and phlebotomy

  • Cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation

  • Central and peripheral line care

  • Chest tube management

  • CVA and post-cardiac event care

  • Isolation and infection control precautions

  • Wound care and use of wound VAC systems
