University Park, Illinois, United States IMI plc At IMI, we’re not just creating solutions; we’re building careers. So, unlock your potential: do work that matters, grow with us, and be part of a team shaping tomorrow. Here, you can make a real difference – solving complex engineering challenges that make industries smarter, safer and more sustainable. From the energy that powers homes to the systems that keep the world moving, you’ll help create solutions the world depends on. It’s not just about the work – it’s about how you grow. We encourage curiosity, make learning part of everyday life, and give you real opportunities to build new skills and move your career forward. We believe in nurturing your wellbeing, too, with strong benefits and flexible policies that help you succeed. At IMI, you’ll find a supportive, collaborative and inclusive environment where you can truly thrive. Role Overview As the Regional Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Leader , you will play a vital role in promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible work environment across multiple IMI locations. The Regional HSE Leader is the execution arm of the HSE function across their assigned geography, responsible for translating sector HSE strategies — set by the Sector HSE Directors — into measurable, site-level improvement across every location in the region. This role operates across all sectors present in the geography and serves as a critical two-way conduit between site reality and strategic direction. The role is responsible for executing agreed sector strategy and translating it into effective site-level delivery, while sector strategy and targets remain set at sector level. Where strategic conflicts arise, the postholder escalates for resolution. The Regional HSE Leader is expected to lead change by providing clear direction, support and accountability to Site HSE Managers, removing barriers, and delivering measurable year-on-year improvement. Coverage note: The Americas region is covered by two Regional HSE Leader roles. To minimise travel and maximise site time, coverage is allocated primarily by geography and may be adjusted as the site footprint changes (e.g., acquisitions, divestments, reorganisations) to maintain effective oversight and minimise unnecessary travel. This role focuses on North/East & Central US. Success in this role is measured by impact. The postholder is expected to go beyond process compliance and reporting by thinking critically about what meaningful, lasting change looks like and how to deliver it. This includes identifying root causes behind incidents, constructively challenging established approaches where appropriate, and ensuring corrective actions are followed through to effective resolution. Work Environment Hybrid; Approximately 40-50% travel is expected. Prefer candidates located near Chicago, IL or Palmer, MA. Core Responsibilities Receive and align with sector HSE priorities from each Sector HSE Director at the start of each performance cycle. Translate strategic priorities into clear, site-level action plans within 30 days of each cycle. Ensure all Site HSE Managers in the region understand what is expected of them and by when. Manage competing sector priorities across the geography — agree sequencing with the relevant Sector HSE Director(s). Where unresolved, elevate conflicts for prioritisation by the Group HSE Director. Driving Site‑Level Change Work with Site HSE Managers to implement agreed improvement actions, with a clear bias towards delivery. Plan site visits purposefully, with each visit linked to a defined objective and a clear improvement outcome. Provide visible leadership to Site HSE Managers through constructive challenge, practical support and regular engagement. Where progress stalls or performance concerns persist, elevate promptly to the relevant Sector HSE Director and agree a recovery plan. Performance Monitoring, Reporting & Governance Ensure reports and presentations are delivered on time and to the required standard, minimising the need for rework. Track progress against site improvement plans on a monthly basis. Report outcomes, not only activities, to the relevant Sector HSE Directors monthly. Actively identify and elevate risks, blockers and persistent performance concerns in a timely manner, rather than waiting for formal audit cycles. Maintain a clear and current understanding of the performance status of every site in the region. Act as the insight layer between sites and sector strategy, providing visibility of what is happening in practice versus what may be assumed. Bring systemic issues that cannot be resolved at site level to the appropriate level and elevate accordingly. Identify best practice within the region and facilitate sharing across sites and sectors. Provide honest, evidence‑based input to the Sector HSE Directors’ strategy reviews. Vacancy & Continuity Management When a Site HSE Manager vacancy arises in the region, act promptly to maintain appropriate HSE oversight at the site. Escalate vacancies to the Group HSE Director and relevant Sector Director without delay. Support onboarding of new Site HSE Managers to ensure continuity of improvement plans. Cross‑Sector Coordination Operate across all sectors present in the geography — Industrial Automation, Process Automation, Life Science, Transport, Climate Control. Build effective working relationships with all Sector HSE Directors providing strategic direction for the region. Ensure no site is overlooked because of sector complexity within the geography. Leadership, Culture & Training Coach and challenge Site HSE Managers to build capability (e.g., problem solving, investigation quality, risk assessment quality) and to sustain improvements over time. Ensure mandatory HSE training requirements are planned, completed and effective across sites in the region (supporting delivery where required). Promote consistent safety culture expectations across sites, escalating persistent leadership or behavioural concerns to the relevant Sector HSE Director(s). Following each site HSE visit conducted by the Regional HSE Leader, prepare and present a structured findings report using the standard presentation format, submitted to site leadership, the Sector HSE Director, and the Group HSE Director within two weeks of the visit. Reports should include key observations, identified risks, recommended corrective actions and agreed timelines for resolution. Act as Lead Auditor for assessments in‑region when assigned under the sector assessment programme; support delivery of the agreed annual assessment plan. Investigate and analyse accidents and incidents within the region, supporting Site HSE Managers with investigations, identifying root causes, and driving continuous improvement through effective preventive measures. Monitor and support the industrial hygiene programme across your region. Continuous Improvement & Other Duties Stay current with industry best practice and emerging regulatory developments, proactively recommending improvements to the wider leadership team. Carry out any other duties appropriate to this post, as necessary or as requested. Success Behaviours (Stakeholder & Delivery Focus) Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with key internal stakeholders. Change‑oriented — focused on delivering meaningful improvement rather than maintaining the status quo. Accountable — takes ownership of regional outcomes and leads with clear accountability across the region. Proactive — identifies issues early and acts with initiative to address them. Credible — trusted by site teams, respected by sector directors. Organised — manages a complex multi‑site, multi‑sector geography without losing sight of priorities. Success Measures Year‑on‑year improvement in global audit scores across all sites in the region. Delivery of site improvement plans within agreed timescales. Reduction in repeat audit findings at regional sites. Timeliness and quality of monthly outcome reporting to Sector Directors. Speed of response to site vacancies and performance risks. Feedback from Sector HSE Directors and Site HSE Managers on effectiveness. Critical Competencies for Success Relevant HSE qualifications or certifications are essential, such as a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, CSP, RSPP, NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent. A minimum of five years’ experience in an HSE leadership role is required, with experience across multiple sites or sectors preferred. In‑depth technical and practical knowledge of HSE regulations, standards and best practice is essential. A proven track record of delivering HSE improvements in a similar operational or industrial environment is required. Strong influencing and communication skills, with the ability to engage senior leaders and promote HSE excellence. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage, influence and support employees at all levels across different sites. Experience working in a metrics‑focused environment, including weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting and analysis. Experience operating within a global manufacturing or technology business, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and operational delivery. Strong working knowledge of HSE management systems, environmental and fire processes, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, incident reporting and investigation, auditing and wider safety systems and processes. A strong understanding of relevant ISO frameworks is essential. Strong understanding of HSE standards, including regulatory compliance and occupational health and safety requirements. Experience auditing management systems, such as ISO 19011, would be advantageous. Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Competence in A3 problem solving, including coaching local teams through the process and ensuring countermeasures are embedded and sustained. Pay range $150k - $180k USD Within this range, individual pay is determined based on skills, experience and qualifications relative to the job requirements. Base pay information is aligned with market location and may be subject to prevailing wage laws, if applicable. Bonus eligibility This position is also eligible for a variable incentive pay component, separate from base salary.
