Investment Accountant

A leading philanthropic organization is seeking an Investment Accountant to join its Finance team and support the accounting and administration of a significant investment portfolio/endowment. This role will be responsible for investment transaction processing, reconciliations, cash flow analysis, tax-related accounting, financial reporting, and audit support. Responsibilities Investment Accounting & Administration Process and accurately record investment transactions, including trade settlements, securities movements, capital calls, distributions, and other investment activity. Perform cash and investment position reconciliations, accruals, and other accounting activities. Prepare and record accounting and tax journal entries. Review and process monthly and quarterly investment management fees. Perform shadow accounting and other investment accounting functions as needed. Maintain and enhance investment accounting policies, procedures, and financial controls. Monitor developments in investment products, accounting standards, technology, and reporting requirements. Partner closely with the Investment team and external investment professionals to resolve accounting and operational matters. Serve as a primary point of contact with the organization’s master custodian bank and coordinate the resolution of investment administration issues. Assist with cash flow forecasting and liquidity analysis to ensure sufficient funds are available for operational, grant making, and strategic needs. Tax & Audit Analyze investment-related K-1s and other tax documents. Prepare tax workpapers and assist with tax-related reporting. Prepare annual financial audit workpapers and coordinate with external auditors on investment accounting matters. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 2+ years of investment accounting experience, preferably with an investment firm, family office, endowment, foundation, or similar organization. Strong understanding of accounting principles as they apply to securities and alternative investments. Experience working with master custodial banks preferred. Experience with investment accounting systems, enterprise accounting software, and Microsoft Office. Strong Excel skills and the ability to learn and adapt to new technology and systems. Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational and time-management skills.Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders while also operating independently.
