What is the Opportunity?

The Senior Manager, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS), Nuclear is a key leader responsible for driving the strategic direction, implementation, and continuous improvement of Aecon's EHS programs across nuclear projects and operations. Reporting to the Director, EHS, this role provides leadership, guidance, and oversight to project teams, ensuring excellence in safety culture, regulatory compliance, human performance, and environmental stewardship.

The Senior Manager serves as a trusted advisor to project and business leaders, championing proactive risk management, operational excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring compliance with all applicable nuclear, environmental, health, and safety requirements. This role plays a critical part in fostering a strong safety culture that supports Aecon's commitment to protecting people, communities, and the environment.

What You'll Do Here

Strategic Leadership & Governance

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EHS programs, policies, standards, and management systems across nuclear projects.
• Partner with business and operational leaders to integrate EHS excellence into project planning, execution, and decision-making.
• Provide strategic guidance to project management teams on regulatory compliance, risk mitigation, human performance, and safety culture initiatives.
• Drive organizational safety performance through leadership, coaching, accountability, and measurable performance indicators.
• Champion a culture of continuous improvement aligned with nuclear industry best practices and operational excellence principle s.

Regulatory Compliance & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as the senior EHS representative with regulatory agencies, clients, industry associations, and external stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial/state, and nuclear regulatory requirements, including environmental, occupational health, radiological safety, and industrial safety standards.
• Lead interactions with audits, inspections, assessments, and regulatory reviews.
• Support client and industry relationships by representing Aecon on matters related to health, safety, environmental protection, and human performance.

Operational Excellence & Risk Management

• Oversee project EHS performance through audits, assessments, inspections, critical control verifications, and management reviews.
• Identify organizational and project-level risks and develop strategies to eliminate or mitigate potential impacts.
• Lead investigations of significant incidents, events, near misses, and radiological concerns to identify root causes and drive sustainable corrective actions.
• Ensure lessons learned and industry operating experience are incorporated into project execution and EHS programs.
• Drive leading indicator programs, field observations, and risk-based safety initiatives to proactively improve performance.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop EHS professionals, managers, and project teams across multiple projects and locations.
• Provide coaching and guidance to project leaders, supervisors, and field personnel regarding safety leadership and accountability.
• Identify competency gaps and develop training strategies to strengthen organizational capability.
• Promote human performance principles and learning organization behaviors throughout the business.
• Foster collaboration across project teams, clients, subcontractors, and operational leadership.

Reporting & Program Management

• Establish and monitor EHS performance metrics, dashboards, and trend analysis.
• Provide executive-level reporting and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Ensure timely closure of corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support proposal development, prequalification submissions (ISNetworld, Avetta, etc.), and client presentations.
• Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of EHS documentation, procedures, and management systems.

What You Bring to the Team

• 10+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience supporting large-scale nuclear, industrial, energy, construction, or infrastructure projects.
• Demonstrated experience leading EHS teams and influencing senior operational leadership in a complex project environment.
• Strong knowledge of nuclear industry regulations, safety culture principles, human performance tools, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Experience managing audits, assessments, investigations, corrective action programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Proven ability to develop and implement strategic EHS programs that drive measurable improvements in safety and operational performance.
• Strong understanding of occupational health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, workers' compensation programs, and incident management practices.
• Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, and executive presentation skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline. Advanced education is considered an asset.
• Professional designations such as CRSP, CSP, CHSC, CIH, or equivalent are considered an asset.
• Experience working in unionized and non-unionized environments.
• Ability to travel to project sites as required.

Nuclear-Specific Requirements

• Experience supporting nuclear construction, refurbishment, commissioning, maintenance, or operational environments is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of radiological protection principles, nuclear quality standards, and human performance programs is considered a strong asset.
• Ability to obtain and maintain security clearances and site access credentials required for nuclear facilities.
• Must be eligible to access and work within U.S. nuclear facilities and Department of Energy sites, where required.
• Must successfully pass all applicable pre-employment screening requirements.
