Job Description

The Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and facilitating patient transport as medically prescribed. This role operates under minimal supervision while evaluating patients and recommending individualized treatment plans. Responsibilities include explaining treatment purposes and procedures, conducting physician-prescribed treatments, operating various ventilatory and aerosol equipment, and providing necessary education upon patient discharge.

Responsibilities

• Conduct patient evaluations and recommend treatment plans.
• Administer routine respiratory treatments utilizing a variety of equipment.
• Perform chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance.
• Execute suctioning of patients through various methods.
• Monitor oximetry and capnography as per policy.
• Review chest x-rays and conduct pulmonary function studies.
• Assist in procedures related to respiratory care, including bronchoscopy and chest tube placements.
• Manage tracheostomy care and perform arterial punctures according to policy.
• Carry out cardiopulmonary resuscitation following BLS and ACLS guidelines.
• Document patient responses and maintain accurate respiratory therapy records.
• Communicate effectively with medical staff regarding patient therapy efficiency.
• Maintain accurate respiratory therapy charging and data entry.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

Valid respiratory therapist license required. Advanced certifications in BLS and ACLS recommended.
