Extension Instructor Assistant Pool – UC Berkeley Extension Position title: Extension Instructor Assistant (Non‑Senate, Non‑Tenure Track). Salary range: $1,000 to $4,000 per course, determined by course length, units, enrollment, and budget. Part‑time by course agreement. Anticipated start: mid‑August for fall terms and mid‑January for spring terms. Positions reviewed April‑July for fall courses and September‑November for spring courses; appointment is contingent on need. Position Overview UC Berkeley Extension invites applications for a pool of qualified Extension Instructor Assistants to provide teaching support for courses in the Berkeley Haas Global Access Program (BHGAP). All courses are held in‑person on campus with some online components. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available. Course Subjects Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics & Other Technology Entrepreneurship & Innovation Leadership, Strategy & Business Negotiation Marketing Product Management Sustainability Other Business, Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Technology Subjects (please specify in your cover letter) General Duties Extension Instructor Assistants provide support to the primary instructor and do not perform direct teaching. Typical duties include a subset of the following: Course preparation, including preparing materials, coordinating student groups, and setting up the course in the learning management system Grading and providing feedback on student assignments, projects, papers, and examinations Facilitating group work, activities, or breakout discussions Monitoring online course activity and the student discussion forum; answering routine student emails and questions Providing individual or group tutoring to students Summarizing and escalating complex student questions or issues to the primary instructor Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent international degree Additional Qualifications (required at time of start) Minimum one year of experience in a related content area Ability to reliably commute to Berkeley, California, once or twice a week for classes that are 1½ to 3 hours long during weekdays (Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Pacific Time) Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in the course subject area preferred Two or more years of professional experience in the course subject Understanding of the business, innovation, and entrepreneurship environment (2+ years of study or practical experience) Teaching, training, mentoring or tutoring experience in the course subject Ability to support all students through inclusive curriculum, classroom environment, and pedagogy Effective verbal and written communication, presentation skills, and ability to collaborate with colleagues Strong organizational skills with attention to detail Proficiency or willingness to learn instructional and other technologies such as Canvas, Zoom, and Google tools Applicant Requirements Curriculum Vitae – most recently updated C.V. or Resume Cover Letter – discuss prior teaching or teaching‑assistant experience, teaching approach, and future teaching interests, including efforts to support student success through inclusive pedagogy Equal Opportunity Employment UC Berkeley is an Equal Opportunity employer.
