Assistant Director of Family Access and Engagement

The Assistant Director of Access & Engagement is a key leadership role focused on the "Engagement" and "Support" pillars of the Family Access and Engagement department. Reporting to the Director, you will be responsible for the strategic alignment of Wu Yee’s community-facing services, ensuring that families transition from initial enrollment into a robust ecosystem of support. By overseeing the FCP, R&R, and FRC teams, you will ensure that parent advocacy, resource navigation, and center-based family programming are integrated, culturally responsive, and meet all Head Start and city-wide performance standards Reporting to the Director of Family Access and Engagement, this is a newly created position with three manager level direct reports with 15+ staff reporting up in three program areas. We are seeking a systems level leader with enterprise operational leadership within mission-driven child and family systems. Candidates with multilingual abilities, experience working in immigrant communities, and deep understanding of the cultural strengths of San Francisco families are strongly encouraged to apply. Primary Responsibilities Family Support Strategy: Lead the development of a unified family support strategy that bridges the gap between childcare referrals (R&R), site-based family engagement (FCP), and neighborhood-based resource hubs (FRC). Supervision & Mentorship: Provide high-level guidance and individual supervision to the FCP, R&R, and FRC Managers; foster a collaborative culture that reduces departmental silos and prioritizes the family experience. Contract & Grant Management: Oversee the deliverables for multiple family support contracts and ensure all reporting is accurate and submitted on time. Advocacy & Parent Leadership: Lead agency-wide efforts to empower parents through the Policy Council, Parent Committees, and advocacy training, ensuring family voices are central to program planning. Community Partnership Oversight: Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with city agencies and non-profits to expand the network of resources available to Wu Yee families. Quality Assurance & Data Monitoring: In collaboration with the Director, analyze family service data (Family Partnership Agreements, referral completion rates) to evaluate program impact and ensure compliance with Family Support Standards. Program Innovation: Lead the design and implementation of new family-focused initiatives, such as playgroups, hot-topic discussions, and cross-departmental outreach events. Budgetary Oversight: Monitor departmental budgets for the Family Support units, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet strategic objectives. Required Knowledge, Experience & Skills Experience: 5–8 years of progressive leadership in social services, human services, or non-profit management, with at least 3 years of experience managing professional staff and complex community programs. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or a related field required; Master’s Degree highly preferred. Regulatory Expertise: Strong knowledge of Family Support Standards, Head Start Performance Standards, and Resource & Referral contract requirements preferred. Community Knowledge: Deep understanding of the San Francisco social service landscape and experience working with diverse, multi-lingual, and low-income populations. Technical Proficiency: Skilled in using social service databases and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data tracking and reporting Core Competencies Relational Command: Exceptional ability to build and maintain partnerships with community stakeholders, staff, and families from diverse backgrounds. Collaborative Architect: The ability to weave together three distinct programs (FCP, R&R, FRC) into a cohesive family support network. Analytical Thinking: Proficiency in using program data to identify service gaps and implement corrective actions that improve family outcomes. Physical Activity: Regularly required to travel between administrative offices and community sites (Joy Lok, Child Development Centers) across San Francisco; ability to work on a computer for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 30 lbs. Cognition: Ability to analyze complex community needs and translate them into program designs; must be able to handle multiple project deadlines simultaneously. Environment: Ability to function effectively in professional office settings, active family resource centers, and community outreach environments. Compensation and Benefits: Salary $100,150 - $165,250 exempt. The final salary offer will be determined after reviewing relevant factors, including but not limited to skill sets, relevant experience, internal equity, and other business and organizational needs.
