Abbeville Special Needs Dentistry, based in Abbeville, SC, is seeking a compassionate General Dentist–Special Needs to provide comprehensive, gentle dental care for children and adults with developmental, intellectual, and physical disabilities. Our practice is dedicated exclusively to serving patients with special needs, and we partner closely with families and caregivers to create a calm, welcoming, and inclusive care experience for every visit.
In this role, you will deliver the full scope of general dentistry within a patient-centered, low-volume, quality-focused environment. You will perform thorough examinations, diagnosis, and individualized treatment planning while adapting each appointment to the patient’s communication style, sensory needs, and level of comfort. Clinical responsibilities include preventive and restorative care, basic prosthodontics, extractions, simple endodontics when appropriate, and the management of dental emergencies, all delivered with an emphasis on comfort, trust-building, and safety.
You will work daily with patients who may experience anxiety, sensory sensitivities, complex medical conditions, or behavioral challenges. Using behavior management strategies, desensitization techniques, and trauma-informed care, you will help patients gradually acclimate to dental treatment and maintain long-term oral health. You will collaborate closely with caregivers, support staff, physicians, and therapists to coordinate care and determine when advanced behavior guidance, sedation, or hospital-based dentistry is indicated, arranging referrals as needed.
