HUMAN RESOURCES SPECIALIST VI (EMPLOYEE CLAIMS) - OAHU

Recruitment Number 26-0204 Department: Department of Human Resources Development, Employee Claims Division. Salary $6,535 to $7,952 per month (SR-26, Step D to I) Note Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors. The position serves as section supervisor in Claims Management Branch and participates in the administration of a self‑insured workers’ compensation program for all Executive Branch employees (excluding the Department of Education, University of Hawaii, and Hawaii Health Systems Corporation), Charter School employees, and the Legislature. The program has primary responsibility for developing and maintaining the State’s workers’ compensation program in compliance with Hawaii law. Responsibilities Assign and review work of subordinates engaged in processing workers’ compensation claims; provide ongoing training to subordinates and assist in conducting statewide claims processing training sessions; handle the most complex workers’ compensation claims cases; attend administrative hearings; and make recommendations for improvement of the employer’s statewide workers’ compensation programs. Qualifications Legal Authorization to Work : State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government to be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens, or otherwise eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment. Basic Education/Experience : Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four‑year college or university. Selective Certification—Workers’ Compensation Claims Management Experience : 3½ years of experience investigating and monitoring workers’ compensation claims, preparing settlement offers, negotiating settlements, developing the employer’s case, and representing the employer in hearings. Staff Specialist or Supervisory Experience : One year of staff specialist or supervisory experience that includes: Staff specialist experience: complex HR situations, advisory services, program development, evaluation, development of new procedures, and HR research. Supervisory experience: planning and directing the work of others, assigning and reviewing work, advising on difficult problems, training and evaluating subordinates.
