Description

The purpose of this position is to provide support and coordination for children and youth at the Garden Street Family Shelter.

1. Coordinate care coordination of for shelter children and youth
2. Coordinate case services with county social workers
3. Prepare and plan children's activities for school break (Winter, Spring, Summer, etc.)
4. Transport students to and from school, if needed
5. Refer at-risk children to partner agencies for intervention
6. Serve as a liaison to local school and school districts
7. Coordinate educational supports for school aged children
8. Coordinate volunteer mentors/tutors for educational supports
9. Serve on Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team
10. Monitor and observe participants for safety and program policy compliance
11. Maintain and organize facility logs (write-ups, overnights, etc.)
12. Maintain accurate participant records in various information management systems; and generate reports as requested
13. Coordinate on-site recreational activities and maintain good relationships with families
14. Serve as liaison between the shelter and Oakland Garden Street Corps
15. Serve and participate on the case conference team
16. Maintain and execute confidential information according to HIPPA standards
17. Maintain a highly detailed and organized filing system
18. Answer phone, handle routine questions and direct calls
19. Utilize harm reduction and trauma informed care principles
20. Maintain a professional image and procedures for the front office
21. Complete written documentation of participant infractions
22. Maintain a neat and organized filing system
23. Check and respond to emails and voicemails on a regular basis
24. Adhere to confidentiality standards
25. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications Requirements

1. Ability to speak and write the English language at a high and professional level
2. High degree of confidentiality
3. Computer literate in Microsoft Office applications Word, Excel and Outlook preferred
4. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
5. Excellent and professional telephone etiquette and presence
6. High degree of organizational skills
7. Approach problem solving creatively
8. Strong ability to utilize a high level of time management and handling multiple tasks

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

1. High school diploma
2. Minimum three (3) years experience in social services, case management, child services or related field
3. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle
4. Must be 21 years or older
5. Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training

Physical Requirements:

1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis
2. Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects
3. Ability to reach overhead
4. Ability to operate telephone
5. Ability to lift up to 25-40 lbs.
6. Ability to operate a computer
7. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information
8. Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
