Title: Senior Data Quality/ETL Testing Engineer

Job Type: Contract to hire (No set conversion date but most likely around the 12-month mark, but could be sooner)

Location: Rosemont area (for the contract portion, the job would be 100% remote, but once converted, there is a 2 day onsite requirement).

• Our client located in Chicago (by Rosemont) has an immediate need for a Senior Data Quality/ETL Test Engineer to be responsible for ETL process data testing within Master Data Management (MDM) system, Data Warehouse, as well as Data Analytics.
• This is a contract to hire opening that would 100% remote during the contract portion, but once converted to permanent, it requires two days onsite a week.

Project Details:

• They are currently migrating 50 years of data sitting in SQL and Oracle servers to the AWS cloud. In this role you will be developing, modifying, and executing test plans for both ETL and data migration activities for this cloud migration including Load balance testing, Duplicate run testing, Negative testing with invalid test data, Performance/volume testing, and regression testing.
• Other data migration testing activities include data validation, integrity checks, and reconciliation across source and target systems.
• The successful candidate will deeply understand the needs of the organization and determine how to best test modeled data, as well as maintain and improve the health of our existing data warehouse objects and ETL processes.

Top Requirements:

• Must have experience with dimensional databases and strong hands-on experience using complex SQL queries for results validation, data mining and evaluating foreign key dependencies. Python scripting experience is also a very good
• Hands-on experience in ETL process testing is a must.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and support external teams in development of resolutions.
• Experience independently developing, modifying, and executing test plans based on requirements and design documents including, but not limited to, load balance testing, duplicate run testing, negative testing with invalid test data, performance/volume testing and building and executing regression test scenarios.

What you will be doing:

• Constantly develop a deeper understanding of available data.
• Work to understand multiple operational departments and how data is captured and used within the organization.
• Become an expert in business rules, system functionality and architecture.
• Understand the current state to develop and/or enhance the data quality framework to support the Data Architecture and Data Analytics teams.
• Aptitude to evolve the current data quality processes into an enterprise data quality practice.
• Write complex SQL queries for source and target systems to verify the data for the ETL processes.
• Review business requirements, functional specifications, use cases, design, and architecture documents to create effective test plans for both ETL and data migration activities providing robust coverage
• Independently develop, modify, and execute test plans based on requirements and design documents including, but not limited to, the following methods:

1. Load balance testing
2. Duplicate run testing
3. Negative testing with invalid test data
4. Performance/volume testing
5. Build and execute regression test scenarios

Requirements:

• Must have experience with dimensional databases and strong hands-on experience using complex SQL queries for results validation, data mining and evaluating foreign key dependencies.
• Hands-on experience with Python (intermediate).
• Hands-on experience validating End User reports.
• Hands-on experience in ETL process testing is a must.
• Strong ability to troubleshoot issues, identify root causes, and support external teams in development of resolutions.
• Hands-on experience in Regression Test Strategies, Regression suite maintenance and execution.
• Experience with Amazon Redshift, MPP Databases, or other cloud warehouses a plus.
• Hands-on experience with Hex, Tableau, Power BI or other analytics applications is a strong plus.
• Ability to thrive in a project-based environment with evolving requirements.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, aggregate, analyze, and wrangle significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
• Deep understanding of Development and Test cycles, including respective best practices.
• Strong hands-on experience in Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
