Recreation Leader I

WE ARE CURRENTLY HIRING FOR 5 OPENINGS.

PART-TIME/RANK & FILE

FLSA: Non-Exempt Summary Under close supervision, implements & runs a recreation program for youth or adults at a designated site. This is a multi-incumbent permanent part‑time position. Incumbents are typically assigned responsibility for a particular program or sport based on their skills and interests. Responsibilities

EXAMPLES OF REGULAR DUTIES:

Lead a recreational activity such as games, sports, music, dance, arts and crafts. Coach, officiate and keep score at sports contests. Assist with the preparation of promotional materials such as flyers and posters. Assist in City wide events as assigned. May tutor students and help with homework. Maintain complete, accurate and timely records. Prepare simple reports. Help set up and take down events. Clean up after events. Sweep and mop floors, empty trash. Store and secure equipment. Prepare athletic fields. Maintain equipment. Draft and distribute game schedules. Officiate games and keep score. Assist in planning, organizing and conducting events. Coach and instruct participants in the assigned sport or activity. May assist at the front desk of a recreational facility answering the phone and providing information. Monitor participant’s activities for safety and security. Report injuries and security problems. Perform related duties as assigned. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and/or experience that demonstrates possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities, e.g., high school diploma (associate’s preferred). Prior experience & demonstration of skill in the assigned activity. Valid State of California driver’s license. CPR and First Aid certificate. Knowledge of: Principles and practices of recreation. Sport or skilled activity assigned. Record keeping. Basic custodial skills. Ability to: Provide skill leadership in assigned sport or activity. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Operate a PC and related software. Maintain effective working relationships with other people. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee may be required to climb, stoop or run and must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment The work environment described here is representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
