Associate Director, Transfer Student Support Service Posting Number req26241 Department Transfer Student Support Srvcs Location Tucson Campus, Tucson, AZ USA Position Highlights This position reports to the Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Advising and manages the staff of the Transfer Student Support Services (T.S.S.S.) unit, which serves prospective transfer students and supports belonging for matriculated transfer students. The work of T.S.S.S. is accomplished through collaboration with partners focused on transfer student success. The Associate Director champions student engagement and success by providing vision and leadership to staff and academic advisors. Plays a vital role in maximizing undergraduate student sense of belonging, leading to enrollment, retention, and completion. In collaboration with department, college, or University leadership, develops, implements, and maintains the mission of providing developmental academic advising and student success services to transfer students. Maintains extensive industry and institutional knowledge and expertise in interpreting and improving academic advising practices that support transfer students. The Associate Director position will have a hybrid schedule consisting of four days in person and one day remote. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Duties & Responsibilities Oversee daily work of T.S.S.S. and directly supervise unit staff (2 Academic Advisors, 1 program coordinator) and supervise 6 to 8 student employees. Collaborate with AVP for AA on budgeting and operating within fiscal parameters. Update AVP for AA on daily, monthly, and annual utilization of T.S.S.S. Develop and implement an assessment process to understand the impact of T.S.S.S. on student success. Provide support for the development of UAccess Analytics reporting. Direct or support the hiring, training, and evaluation of staff. Plan and lead training direction and instruction to staff and conduct performance evaluations. Develop and implement selective programs and other advising processes (e.g., 2+2 Program in Degree Search; AZ Transfer Meetings). Develop resources to increase effectiveness and efficiency, especially around transfer student issues. Lead leadership on establishing and interpreting policies and procedures that impact transfer students. Coordinate with college-wide academic advising community regarding transfer issues. Collaborate with T.S.S.S. staff to coordinate and oversee student programs and provide direction and leadership. Represent department at appropriate meetings, maximizing collaboration with enrollment management, student affairs, and advising units across the university. Develop relationships with campus partners, community college partners, and other stakeholders focused on transfer student success. Provide Academic Advising for transfer students during peak times or special projects (averaging 10 hrs per week). Perform special projects and other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of student development theory and advising practices and principles. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate with various student populations, university personnel, and representatives from businesses and the community. Ability to effectively prioritize and perform duties autonomously. Ability to work closely and effectively with multiple departments, organizations, and individuals in a complex environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel). Expert knowledge of UA policy and procedures. Expert knowledge of policy, processes, and procedures that impact transfer student success. Understanding of UAccess Student and Analytics and Trellis usage. Strong management, organization, and planning skills. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and assignments effectively. Demonstrated experience and sensitivity in working with student populations. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with university personnel: faculty, college deans, administrators, and staff. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree required. Minimum of 5 years of related work experience, including 2 years of managerial experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience. Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy and ability to travel locally, regionally, and/or nationally. Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling or related field. Experience with tools used for transfer students such as AZ Transfer. Three years experience at a community college as a student or staff. Three years direct experience in academic advising in higher education. Two years experience supervising at least two professional staff.
