About Electrification & Automation Headquartered in Wendell, NC, the Electrification & Automation (E&A) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets across all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing in our Future Grids portfolio to create the power distribution grid of the future. Position Overview The EA Business Unit is seeking an Application Engineer for the Proposals team. This role is located in Wendell, NC with remote possibilities. Key Responsibilities Review customer specifications, commercial and technical documents, and product requirements. Identify and define the preliminary scope of work for a complete solution that meets customer specifications. Prepare layout and single‑line drawings where applicable to demonstrate the intended scope. Collaborate with engineers across the Business Unit to generate technical solutions for the Siemens suite of products. Prepare RFQ packages for third‑party products when applicable and work closely with Procurement to secure quotations. Perform quote evaluations of all quotations received and make technical recommendations to the design and vendor choices. Develop the cost model for the quotation using product configurators and secure approvals from senior management. Prepare customer‑facing proposals including relevant technical, commercial, and contractual items for the applicable medium‑voltage switchgear and other products. Engage in customer discussions by supporting the Business Development organization and Sales teams. Collaborate with internal departments and Sales teams to negotiate and secure contracts. Work closely with the Project Management (PMO) team for an efficient handover from the bid phase to the project execution phase upon project award. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: 1+ year of engineering experience in an EPC, engineering, manufacturing, utility, or industrial corporate environment. Ability to analyze customer technical specifications and single‑line diagrams and apply appropriate product offerings cost‑effectively. Financial knowledge to support ongoing business planning and product lifecycle management. Strong communication skills to interact accurately with internal and external customers. Capability to identify market trends and work with Marketing and Technology to address gaps. Excellent PC skills, including Microsoft Office tools, and willingness to learn product configuration/pricing applications. Travel: less than 10%. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with ANSI, IEEE, UL, and NEMA standards for power distribution applications, especially medium‑voltage switchgear and transformers. Experience in designing and applying electrical distribution products focused on medium‑voltage metal‑clad or metal‑enclosed switchgear and/or transformers. Knowledge of evaluating single‑line drawings, schematics, relay protection & control schemes, and communication network diagrams. Experience with electrical and 2D layout drawing tools such as AutoCAD and Visio. Advanced degree may substitute for 2 years of experience. Authorization to work in the United States.
