Overview FLSA Status: Exempt Encompass Community Supports, formerly known as Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS) is hiring a Jail Services - Mental Health Clinician. GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK Works collaboratively with clients experiencing symptoms and effects of Mental Health challenges and/or Substance Use Disorders, their families, and community partners to develop and execute plans which promote individual growth and healing. Utilizing a person-centered approach, the qualified mental health clinician will provide behavioral health services in a forensic (jail) setting manage mental health needs while incarcerated, while ensuring culturally appropriate treatment approaches are conducted and client choice is respected. Work is performed under regular supervision. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs intakes, assessments and diagnostic interviews; Conduct acute suicide risk assessments for individuals placed on suicide precaution status. Provides groups, CBT interventions, brief solution focused interventions, and supportive counseling to incarcerated individuals as well as case management services. Conducts hospital preadmission screenings for clients incarcerated at Central Virginia Regional Jail Coordinate psychiatric services for inmates and maintain record of inmates receiving medication management; Collaborate with nurses and providers to ensure mental health needs are being met. Provides restoration of competency services for individuals incarcerated at Central Virginia Regional Jail. Develops and maintains administrative and clinical files and reports, documenting to meet clinical auditing standards. Completes Quarterly and Annual Reviews within required time frames. Participates in clinical, administrative and supervisory meetings; collaborates with other staff members concerning cases. Conducts risk safety risk assessments and make referrals to higher levels of care based on these risks. Collaborate with community stakeholders, other treatment team members, referral sources, and other community resources with client consent. Maintain communication with these sources to ensure appropriate service delivery. Completes electronic clinical documentation during the time-of-service delivery and maintain confidentiality of records within HIPAA standards. Provide training to CVRJ staff, teaching signs and symptoms of mental illness, crisis de-escalation skills and suicide prevention. OTHER FUNCTIONS Drug tests clients as needed basis or as directed. Performs other duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of diagnostic classification and psychosocial assessment; thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of providing care to the emotionally disturbed, socially dysfunctional, behaviorally disordered, mentally ill and/or substance abusive clients and their families; thorough knowledge of the theories and techniques of counseling and crisis intervention; thorough knowledge of intake techniques and procedures; ability to evaluate and screen clients; ability to prepare adequate records and to report findings and data effectively; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, associates and the thorough public; knowledge of MS Office, to include Word and Excel. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master’s degree in Human Services or related field with at least one year experience in substance abuse and mental health or bachelor’s degree in human services or related field with at least 3 years’ experience in substance abuse and mental health is required; QMHP license is preferred; Experience working with children, adolescents, and adults preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This work requires little or no physical effort or exertion. Working conditions are good; may involve occasional exposure to some disagreeable elements; accidents are improbable other than minor injuries; health hazards are negligible; some mental effort and stress may be involved resulting in inconvenience and frustration. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid Virginia driver’s license; attends training and maintains certifications as required by the Agency and regulatory guidelines.
