Registered Nurse (RN) - OR General Surgery

Location Detail Backus Hospital (10309) Shift Detail 2 12‑hour shifts 7 p‑7 a. 1 8‑hour shift 11 p‑7 a. Rotating nights, including weekends. Sign‑on bonus offered (restrictions apply). Job Description Registered nurses work in collaborative environments with strong interdisciplinary teams, focused on a patient‑centered care model in a richly diverse work space. Under the direction and general supervision of the Nurse Manager and in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policies, and medical staff direction, the RN uses evidence‑based practices. The RN utilizes the nursing process to develop a plan of care that addresses physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of patients and families. Qualifications Education (minimum) : Graduate of an accredited nursing school. Experience (minimum) : One (1) year of experience and/or successful completion of the William W. Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Program. License and Certification (minimum) : Current unrestricted RN license in good standing in Connecticut; Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire; Ability to obtain and maintain department‑specific certifications. Preferred Education : BSN or MSN. Preferred Experience : Two (2) or more years in this specific clinical area. Preferred Certification : Certification in the clinical area; CNOR certification. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Basic knowledge of nursing principles and practices. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions. Effective communication skills for providing technical or complex information and instruction. Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting with departments, employees, physicians, managers and patients. Ability to handle multiple priorities, be flexible, and work as a team player. Ability to work in a stressful environment; commitment to customer service. Basic computer knowledge for data entry and retrieval. Problem Solving and Decision Making High level of analytical ability to gather and interpret information from various sources.
